  • Jazzpunk: Director's Cut is a wild ride from start to finish. If you mesh with this style of humour, it's a barrel of laughs, and the game is just downright fun to play. Your experience will only last a few hours, but that just makes sure Jazzpunk never loses steam and is always hurtling forward at a million miles an hour.

  • Jazzpunk knows its all about the joke and never spends too much time on one singular scenario. Due to the speed of which these are thrown at you though, you may lose your place or forget what exactly you were supposed to do and how to do it. Despite that I still find it recommendable to almost anyone who can appreciate absurdist humor and a irreverence for logic when it comes to comedy.

  • Jazzpunk is a wonderful example of what can be done within the video game medium by ignoring the rules and going off to do its own thing. Yet at the same time understands that what makes video games different to other mediums is interactivity and that the role of the player is essential for the experience to take place as the player is not a passive participant but an active one. Jazzpunk often looks to the past for inspiration, yet utilises this in a way which is appropriate for the more experimental titles of today.

  • Jazzpunk invites and rewards playful inquisitiveness. It's a comedy game wrapped in a point-and-click puzzler; it's intense spy action in an adorable, cartoony world. As inviting as that might be, it's still limited. There's only so far these jokes can go – especially fart jokes – and the world supports only what it knows it can handle. This makes for a short game, by most standards, but an entirely enjoyable one.

  • Jazzpunk is a very short game and, due to the nature of humour, not one that carries much replay value. It is however fantastic for what it is. By being short the pace is never allowed to stop and you never get too much. It’s somewhat tiring due to its persistence and they shove so much into this short time that you do feel fulfilled. There’s a lot to see in Jazzpunk and you do some amazing things. So many moments are hugely memorable and any lover of the weird or the obscure will find so much joy here.

The game (and its achievements) are structured in a way that encourage players to wander around and see everything there is. Even having completed the game I’ll be going back through it again, just to catch some of the things I missed. While I wish it was $10 instead of $15 it’s still about the cost and length of a movie, and I can’t remember the last movie I enjoyed this much.

  • Not loving Jazzpunk is as difficult as classifying it. Few games are this confidently weird, and even fewer manage to pull off anything even resembling humour. If you’re looking to laugh a lot, and maybe even think about stuff just a little bit, give it a play. If you’re looking to be a jerk in a movie theatre from the comfort of your own home, the game will also cater to that need. It’s weird that way, and apparently so are you.

  • Even if the humor doesn't always click and the depth is lacking at moments, Jazzpunk's stylish presentation and great backing soundtrack set a slick atmosphere and cool vibe that inspire the need to stick around in its peculiar world a bit longer. Unless you're very diligent in your travels, revisiting past stages undoubtedly reveals additional jokes, secrets, and silly character encounters you missed the first time around.

  • Video game humor usually caps out at an amused smile, or a pleasant chuckle; ridiculous glitches are the only things gamers seem to guffaw at in retail releases these days. But I found myself giggling like a bubbly schoolgirl (apologies for that mental image) over and over at Jazzpunk's unabashed absurdity. If you have an inclination for finding the funnier side of games, or you've been dying for the playable, cyberpunk version of Spy vs. Spy, Jazzpunk will be right up your weird alley. Delivery is crucial to the art of comedy, and Jazzpunk makes the act of finding the jokes just as humorous as the clever punch lines.

  • Jazzpunk considers itself above the law in the pursuit of laughs, and it certainly commits some misdemeanors with some lazy stereotyping. It’s not exactly offensive, it just comes across as being squeezed out of low-hanging fruits way past their expiration date. The Asian-fusion, Blade Runner feel of the second mission is cool, but sampling exotic delicacies like “miso sphincter” just feels juvenile.
