  • Immortals of Aveum’s greatest flaw is missing the target in marketing. It may not be the best FPS adventure, but it has a very enjoyable narrative and great (albeit few) full-fledged spell-flinging fights that I couldn’t get enough of.

  • Whilst it is nice to at least try something different, Immortals of Aveum falls back on way too many cliches to make it stick. Terrible dialogue, formulaic shooting and linear progression are too overbearing in an otherwise colourful shooter.

  • Immortals of Aveum is impressive and feels unique enough to stand out on its own in the FPS genre. The fact that it dabbles in the RPG and Puzzle areas makes the adventure a more fun and interesting experience. Every area is a delight on the eye and the voice acting and acting in general keeps you gripped like you are playing a part in a movie. With lots of various magic tricks to learn there is plenty to enjoy here. It’s just unfortunate that its release was so close to Starfield, as otherwise this could have received much more deserved attention.

  • If it functioned as intended, Immortals of Aveum would, in all likelihood, prove a passable, albeit mediocre, experience. Nothing in its story, gameplay design, etc., does anything to make it either worthy of praise or warranting condemnation. Its fall from grace comes exclusively from its inability to meet basic performance standards.

  • An impressive first outing for Ascendant Studios, Immortals of Aveum elevates first-person combat with a magical touch, while making sure its world is made for competent platforming and puzzle-solving.

  • Despite this game’s flaws with repetitive combat and an awkward beginning to the story, I hope there’s a sequel on the way. The combat’s thrillingly fast-paced, and the storyline actually grabbed me during its final hours. If a sequel adds way more enemy variety and improves the MCU-like script, Immortals of Aveum 2 could be a hit.

Immortals of Aveum is a decent game that takes some risks with its technology. Some of those pay off, while others hold it back. The game itself is fun if not a bit too long and it just comes across as a decent game that feels undercooked at times. I enjoyed my time with it, but I am likely to forget it come the end of the year. In an overcrowded year this big budget gamble might not pay off, but I would certainly be in for this team’s next outing. The pieces for a great game are here, just need to fit them into place.

  • Jak’s emotional maturity reaches a standstill when the past comes to haunt him, but through the help of his newfound Immortals team and the life-changing quest of trying to save the world, the character that you play in the beginning is not the same as the end. Immortals of Aveum delivers an emotionally charged story and sticks the landing with its lofty, atmospheric ambitions and high-octane gameplay.

  • Immortals of Aveum starts promising but quickly suffers a litany of flaws. It does have some good-looking visuals but is often awkward when it's not downright unwieldy to play.

  • The ideas and love that went into developing this are plain to see, which makes the middling-at-best end product all the more disappointing. One of the best highlights is that the visuals show off what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of. Regrettably, they’re a bit busy in general and will look terrible on hardware that a lot of people have. This might be worth a shot for those with a stronger console or a high-end PC. If you own an older rig or an Xbox Series S, wait for a deep sale.
