  • The problem is that the game never really ramps up enough in the idol management or concert areas to offer a complete experience for both fans of the Hyperdimension Neptunia lore or those who’ve never ventured forth into Compile Heart’s colorful world of CPUs and tongue-in-cheek video game references. It seems content to languish between two worlds, and as it’s never particularly fantastic in either, ends up feeling quite hollow.

  • A fun piece of fan service for those who enjoy the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, and management games. The amount of options in-game are light, but the musical score and humor make up for it.

  • A single playthrough of one goddess will take a single-digit number of hours... but if you get that far, you won't want to stop until you've seen everything, which will take a whole lot longer. While light on what we'd traditionally call "gameplay" and aimed at an even more specific audience than your typical modern Japanese games, Producing Perfection is a solid, character-driven experience that is a lot of fun.

  • Producing Perfection will appeal to its core audience of loyal Hyperdimension Neptunia fans, who will be eager to view every cutscene and engage in every bit of dialogue. However, there is nothing here for newcomers and casual players to get excited about. For an idol management game with promise and potential, it's a shame to see Neptune and her friends hit such a bum note – and a really repetitive bum note at that.

  • For those who aren’t invested in the series, Producing Perfection is a hard-sell, especially to gamers not acclimated to anime/otaku culture. Some of the dialogue is genuinely witty and charming, as is the world of Gamindustri itself, yet tedious concert gameplay and a lack of unique content do little to justify the asking price.

  • I really don’t understand where in the development process of Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection that the game just went off the tracks and took a nose dive. What starts off as an interesting concept quickly spirals out of control, becoming one of the more boring games I have played this year.

  • Hyperdimension Neptunia PP is more a test of your patience than it is a video game. The repetitive nature of the game play and the pointless nature of your actions make for a game that is hard to enjoy.

  • Bottom line: this is a game that only the absolute most diehard Hyperdimension enthusiasts may enjoy, and even that is up for debate. Those wanting a deep, rewarding idol simulator, however, will have to wait until the next one arrives stateside.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection takes an interesting idea and makes it incredibly boring by attempting to use sheer fanservice to drive itself forward. There’s nothing wrong with liking boobs and cute tsundere girls, but when there’s literally no other incentive to play, it made the characters seem more like objects to fondle than people. It was only enjoyable when I didn’t think too hard about it – and even then, only barely.

  • Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection is a decent, if feature-light, management game. It’s helped massively by the premise, but the execution, from the cute graphics to the ease of use, might make this worth looking into if you fancy a management sim on the go. Just don’t expect hidden depths – like the generic pop the game asks you to sell, what you see is what you get.

About the game

You take on the role of the main character, who happens to fall into Gamindustri and is immediately hired by one of the four CPUs-Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert-to be their producer and manage their idol careers. Get your training wheels on, ladies, because a new producer is in town and the fate of Gamindustri hangs in the balance! Will you be able to properly raise these CPUs into idols, or will their citizens be stolen away from them by the popular idol group MOB-48!?
