  • Hyper Scape is an absolutely fine game that I think would have been huge if it would have come out earlier. It does a lot of things right and not much overly wrong. Instead, it suffers from an overwhelming sense of familiarity that doesn’t present much of a reason for people to play it over more established games in the genre.

  • Hyper Scape is inoffensive and might be the right battle-royale choice for you, depending on your stream engagement. However, it doesn’t push hard enough on any one of its differentiators, and it ends up struggling to find a sense of itself in a genre with oodles of established choices. Toes dipped into shallow water may pay off for a deep water swim in the future, but Hyper Scape holds itself back from really trying to shake things up.

  • With some patches to make time to kill faster, and to better balance the weapons and abilities, Hyper Scape could become an enjoyable experience. But here in season one, it’s a disappointment, one with a lot of potential but deeply flawed execution. It’s possible to have some fun here. But I’d recommend waiting a season or two and seeing if the game gets the patches it needs.

  • Hyper Scape is a polished and pretty battle royale, but it is also bland and generic from start to finish. In a market already saturated by free to play shooters to try, Hyper Scape should be an afterthought. It doesn't have the confidence or the personality of its competitors, and it's come onto the scene far too late. There's a lot to like about Hyper Scape, but you probably won't find yourself playing it for long.

  • There sure have been a lot of battle royale games to come out within the last few years, and I have to say, I’m not tired of them. I genuinely enjoy when a game can innovate meaningfully in this evermore cramped space. Hyper Scape brings a lot of concepts to the table that, in theory, I thought were interesting, but the execution… this ain’t it.

  • Hyper Scape has some cool ideas, but still feels like it's in beta even after the 1.0 launch, especially on PC. We've seen Ubisoft snatch victory from the jaws of "somewhat underwhelming" before. Maybe they can do it again.

  • Hyper Scape on Xbox One feels like it tries new ideas but fails to implement them in any effective way, and frankly even if they were well-optimized, it’s still not enough to make it stand out from the rest of the pack. This is a perfectly serviceable battle royale, but it is just that – serviceable. When there are standout titles in the market that are hitting their stride right now, it’s hard to recommend starting back from square one with Hyper Scape.

  • So Hyper Scape has many problems, but most of them are actually fixable in the long run, and the potential is definitely there. In the broadest strokes, Ubisoft's take on the genre is innovative and at times even exciting, however, some of the design decisions that have been made only detract from the entertainment. Uneven controls, weird balancing issues, boring interiors, and a strange loot system holds the entire thing back.

  • Whilst Hyper Scape has some interesting ideas that make for fun and thrilling gameplay scenarios, the game does very little to stand out amongst its competitors. Although it is lacking in personality and lore, future updates could allow Hyper Scape to carve out an identity of its own. However, currently, it will do little to pull you away from your preferred battle royale game, and if you're not a fan of the genre, it won't make you a believer.
