  • The maps are huge, and have points of interest to discover littered throughout. Really the only obstacle for enjoyment is your own patience and just how much time you’re willing to spend doing all the less-than-thrilling activities.

  • Real-life hunters should appreciate Hunting Simulator 2. Virtual hunters may sometimes find themselves in want, as this game can straddle the line between relaxing and dull. But it should grow on you, as your canine companion also grows beside you. You’ll develop “nerves of steel, and an incredible amount of patience.” Be prepared to invest a lot of time to get the most out of this entertaining if uneven offering, though.

  • Overall Hunting Simulator 2 is a decent game with a unique mechanic in the dog companions. However, this is not enough to make it a great game with the lack of a good ‘feel” or sound for weapons or a background noise that felt more like white noise. While I’m used to grinding in various games, the grind here felt overmuch.

  • Hunting Simulator has a tiny bit of good in it, where mainly the models such as the guns and dogs look fine (when not moving). But there’s a lot of things in Hunting Simulator that make it either a boring walking simulator or plain stupid/unfair to play. It misses the goal on many fronts, and it’s highly likely that it’s not worth your time.

  • Hunting Simulator 2 excels in one department that actually surprised me: the controls. The game's various weapons actually respond in quite a realistic way, featuring kick-backs with heavy recoil, a weightiness to the weapons (especially trying to take aim), and holding your breath to balance your shot. Unlike many first-person shooters, Hunting Simulator 2 goes for some incredible authenticity when it comes to making the player actually feel the weight and power of the equipment. The controls are responsive, heavy (in a good way), and fairly simple to get the hang of.

  • Hunting Simulator 2 unfortunately misses the majority of feelings that come with actual hunting. With cumbersome systems, clunky gameplay, unbalanced currency system, and no dynamic day/night cycle, Hunting Simulator 2 feels like a test of patience in the wrong way, that ultimately does not pay off.

  • A respectable recreation of hunting that serves far better as a simulator than an actual game. For some, this will be exactly what you're looking for. For most, probably not.

  • Hunting Simulator 2 feels very much like a game for a small audience. Most players will simply not be able to put up with the snail’s pace of the action or the frustrating gameplay issues that would test the patience of a saint. It’s entirely possible to spend a dozen hours in this game and only manage to hunt a similar number of animals.

  • Ultimately, there are better options out there for those itching for a hunting game fix. Hunting Simulator 2 earns points for its selection of licensed firearms and novel hunting companion system, but little else. The whole experience feels unfinished and the lack of attention to detail works to undermine the genuinely good traits it has. 4/10 sad duck calls

  • I can see Hunting Simulator 2 working for some people, but it doesn’t work for me. It is clunky, slow and glitchy, and whilst there’s a base loop that could be intriguing, the lack of any real depth past the first few hours left me feeling disappointed.
