- Hotline Miami 2 has just about everything going for it: excellent graphics, a terrific soundtrack, tight controls, and buckets and buckets of gore. While it’s envelope-pushing profanity won’t be for everyone, if you’re looking for a shocking, fun action experience that will test your skills - and your conscience - this is the game for you.
Matthew Noojin · Oct 12, 2015 Reviewed on AndRead full review - If only that action were more consistently enjoyable. When Hotline Miami 2 is firing on all cylinders, it shows flashes of the focused, nimble brilliance of the original. But those moments aren't the norm. ...Where Hotline Miami felt lithe and creative, Hotline Miami 2 often feels sluggish and inflexible. There's fun to be had with this sequel, but it's the kind that only the original game's most ardent and obsessive fans will find in great supply.
Alex Navarro · Mar 20, 2015 Reviewed on PC, PS4, VitaRead full review - Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is not a bad game. It is, however, a bad sequel. Carrying a "2" in the title creates an expectation for a new and exciting take on what the last game did, and Wrong Number doesn't do that.
Jason Fanelli · Mar 20, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The old school top down visual style is still there and for an 8-bit/16-bit look, the kill animations and gore displayed is as gruesome as a fully rendered 3D game. It fits with the rather colorful look of the game and contrasts very well. Of course, having to leave the building after the mission and seeing the carnage I left was always pretty satisfying.
Drew Leachman · Mar 19, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Although I have given a lot of criticisms, this game is far from bad. In fact it is great. If you liked the first game you will most likely adore the sequel. Hotline Miami 2 absolutely succeeds in expanding upon the formula but sadly it ignores and exacerbates existing problems and finds new problems in the introduction of the new design choices.
Alexander Baldwin · Mar 19, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hotline Miami 2 is ultimately a lesser game than its predecessor, one that has just as many failings as it does strengths. Yet some of its ideas are so outstanding that it’s absolutely worth playing if you can summon the appropriate amount of patience. It’s an audacious game that takes risks and embraces experimentation. When so many franchises seem content on retreading the same ground, Hotline Miami 2 feels like an important, if often frustrating asset.
Ben Moore · Mar 17, 2015 Reviewed on PC - A story David Lynch would be proud of, great music, and twitch-action gameplay are even more reasons to pick this up and give it a shot. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you can handle the extremely mature content then by all means, enjoy tackling this wild ride. I’m sure it’ll grab a hold of you and only let go long enough to bash your head in with a wooden bat.
Nicholas Plouffe · Mar 16, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With the constant urge to better your score, and an unlockable Hard Mode, there definitely is reasons to keep coming back. This is a game not to be missed on PS Vita, so long as you don’t mind a bit of blood along the way…
Colin Byrne · Mar 16, 2015 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - All of this is exacerbated by the fact that Hotline Miami 2 just plain outstays its welcome. Having replayed the first game immediately prior to starting the second, it’s amazing what a drastically different experience I had between the two. No level in the original tripped me up for too long, and the number of enemies between checkpoints offered a challenge without slowing the satisfyingly brisk pace.
Josh Harmon · Mar 16, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a somewhat flawed masterpiece. Addictive and brutal, it often walks the line between making you feel a sense of accomplishment and disdain. Whilst it goes out of its way to be grander than the original (and on the whole succeeds), its bigger levels and erratic difficulty unfortunately separate it from its predecessor unfavourably.
