  • Each mission in Hitman 2 is a treasure trove of wonderful emergent gameplay, excellent satirical writing, and lashings of delicious, jet-black humour. The targets you'll hunt are almost universally rotters which thankfully takes care of any lingering moral quandaries you may have about their imminent demise. It's better that way. We really don't want to feel bad about tinkering with an old man's oxygen tank so it blows up and kills him when he sparks up a cigarette, do we?

Hitman 2 is not leaps and bounds better or even different than its predecessor, as it feels less like a sequel and more like the second season. However, it manages to hit the mark where it truly matters with expansive level designs and a wealth of gameplay options that makes playing through the same missions multiple times consistently fun but feel different every time.

  • Hitman 2 is the pinnacle of the series, offering fantastic gameplay and extremely replayable locations. As well as the additions of a co-op sniper mode, an online competitive mode, and new targets and items updated frequently makes this well worth the full price admission despite it sharing the same bones as the previous game. Hitman 2 is perfect for the causal and hardcore stealth player.

  • All told, Hitman 2 is a heck of a treat for Hitman fans, offering the most refined mechanics, craziest antics, and most complex levels yet seen in the franchise. Each of the five core levels can be played for potentially a dozen or more hours, offering fantastic replayability for those who like to mess around with the Hitman formula. There’s an argument to be had that Hitman 2 plays it a little self, but when it’s so damned good, and unique, at what it does, you’ll hear little argument from me.

  • Narrative qualms aside, Hitman 2 represents Agent 47 at his best. The game’s six stages are masterfully crafted sandboxes that will test your skills and your patience. And while the new features IO Interactive has introduced don’t quite reinvent the wheel, they certainly make the game all the more enjoyable. Add to this the inclusion of Hitman 2016 and the addicting new sniper mode and you have a package that will keep even the most seasoned contract killers busy for quite a while. Simply put, if you’re a fan of the series and eager for more sadistic thrills, Hitman 2 should be at the top of your hit list.

  • Although the game lacks a better plot, it is not a bad title to play. It was really exhilarating and at times I really doubted I could pull off some of the more demanding missions. Let’s just hope that next sequel will do more on the plot so we could really have a contender for the Game of the Year at our hands.

  • Hitman 2 is surgical – it’s a focused experience that knows what it wants to achieve and exactly how to do it, much like its protagonist. All six maps are wonderfully replayable, and in reshuffling older content, IO seems to be on the cusp of the “games as a service” wave in a way not attempted by other developers. More locations would have been welcome, and Hitman 2 feels like somewhat of a supplementary package to its episodic brother at times, but there is nothing else out there like it.

  • The developer's uncertain future under Square Enix made a fair number of headlines a while back, before IO went independent and became the sole master of Agent 47's destiny. The fact that Hitman 2 turned out as well as it did in spite of that business turmoil is a great sign for the future of the franchise, and we should all be fortunate enough to get to play another one of these games a couple of years from now.

  • Hitman 2 offers is more of the same, but that same is sharper, prettier, and more refined. The new additions are great improvements and the maps are some of the series' strongest.

  • Hitman 2 is an absolute treat for fans of Agent 47, but its enhanced features and difficulty options make it accessible for all. Mission stories once again act as great training wheels to get players up to speed with the game’s mechanics and environments, and from there, Hitman 2 has a wealth of possibilities just waiting to be explored, enjoyed and revelled in. And they should be.
