- High On Life is a wild ride with quirky characters and fun exploration coming to its aid. The humor can be over-the-top, but the creativity, visuals, and music make it a genuinely entertaining and memorable experience, even if you play it just once.
Mahi Araf · Aug 22, 2025 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - My main issue with High On Life isn’t that it’s not funny or amusing - I mean, I did laugh a few times, but not nearly enough for a game so reliant on in-game jokes - it’s just that it’s not really that enthralling to play. At times it can be fun, and some of the movement stuff later on does elevate it somewhat, but for the most part the gameplay is incredibly bland, and the boss fights are more of a chore than a highlight. High On Life is the very definition of the word “okay.” It’s bang average.
Dan Webb · Jul 24, 2023 Reviewed on PS5, PS4Read full review - The gameplay is not perfect, but the Roiland team is gaining experience very quickly - hopefully, over time, they will be able to release something really amazing.
Brau3er · Jan 23, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - High On Life certainly isn’t an intellectually profound game or a deep and meaningful one (despite a quasi-emotional end-game), it’s just an FPS that wants you to laugh and indulge in silliness for a little while. As long as you jive with the game’s grooves, you will like what High On Life has to offer, but be warned – when you’re playing a game that’s high on its own supply, sometimes it won’t think straight and it’ll leave you yearning for something more.
James Davie · Jan 03, 2023 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - It’s a fairly accessible first-person shooter for those who aren’t die-hard fans of the genre, while still offering enough variety to make veterans feel satisfied. While on its surface it’s a raunchy, outrageous first-person shooter, at its core there’s a surprisingly emotional heart.
Heidi Hawes · Dec 29, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Sure, the story stays on the short side and some of the character writing winds up being hit-or-miss, but if you’re a fan of Roiland’s comic stylings and want to enjoy a playable Rick and Morty episode, you’ll get that and then some with High On Life.
Cory Clark · Dec 28, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - High on Life is likely a divisive game. While the gameplay is more than sufficient - if you're happy with an unrefined, almost arcade-style shooter - you then come to the dialogue and "comedy", which, to me, was overdone to the point of annoyance. Funny to begin with but repeated so much that a drinking game would lead to liver failure.
Chris Wray · Dec 27, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - High on Life is a decent enough game that doesn’t quite live up to its potential. The combat feels unfocused and lacks depth, while the story and humor only hit their stride in the final moments. Still, it’s worth a playthrough if you enjoy the more aggressive side of shooters with some light platforming.
David Flynn · Dec 23, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - High on Life may even be too much for some fans of Justin Roiland. While players won’t find anything new for mechanics and world traversal that has not been in other FPS titles, it is a good set of bones for future DLC and/or sequels.
Kevin Chick · Dec 22, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - High on Life is a game that's so obsessed with "riffing" on the video game medium that it loses a bit of its identity in the process. In a quest to become a kind of "anti-video game" video game, High on Life falls into some of the same pitfalls that it pokes fun at.
