  • Hey! Pikmin misses out on being a great platformer with its disappointing touch screen controls, and its poor level design. But it may be a fun ride for die hard Pikmin fans.

  • Hey! Pikmin is a solid spin-off from the existing Pikmin franchise. While it doesn’t feature the tactical style gameplay of past Pikmin games, it also doesn’t feel like Pikmin was shoehorned into some random genre either. The side-scrolling adventure style definitely suits this franchise and I would be more than happy to see Nintendo continue to create Hey! Pikmin games (as long as they give us traditional Pikmin games as well!).

  • Regardless of its lax difficulty and lack of replay value, Hey! Pikmin has been utterly adorable and fun to play through. If you’re a fan of the franchise and don’t go in expecting it to be a mobile sequel, but rather a casual spinoff of the series, you’ll be pleased. Folks waiting on a new full-scale Pikmin will have to hope the Switch gets one in the coming year.

  • I love all things Nintendo! It's my Dad's fault really, since he bought my sister and I the NES many Christmases ago. It was the beginning of a love affair, but who could blame me? There was no better introduction to video games than Mario and Zelda! I'm a proud owner of a 3DS (Fire Emblem-branded, thank you), a Wii U (which, incidentally, also doubles as my TV remote), and the Switch (day one, naturally). I'm a writer and a web developer, so I love writing reviews and take design elements very seriously. My all-time favorite game is Super Mario World for the SNES, though I'm also partial to any of the Mario Kart entries.

  • To say Hey! Pikmin reaches the highs found in Nintendo 2D mainstays Super Mario, Donkey Kong Country or Kirby would be a stretch, but I simply cannot get enough of how downright pleasant it is to play, be it Olimar and his Pikmin bouncing on mushrooms or levels implementing sledding or shmups into the Pikmin formula. Should Pikmin 4 continue to elude us, this is a mighty fine appetizer I’d love to see iterated upon. All I ask in return is the return of my beloved plump Purple Pikmin.

  • The allure of Hey! Pikmin doesn’t come in the comparisons to its predecessors, as it’s a game that manages to stand on its own. It’s noteworthy in that it is something unique – albeit a little simple in its execution – that’s clearly catered to a more casual audience, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t joy to be found during this romp.

  • Hey! Pikmin is a solid game and a decent first attempt at bridging out the franchise to multiple genres. The Pikmin seem to have a lot more personality in this game than previous entries and you get to see a more playful side to them. It isn’t the longest game out there but there are plenty of things to do that will elongate the experience such as beating each level without losing any Pikmin, as that grants you a gold trophy and of course you can challenge yourself to find every single piece of treasure in the game.

  • Hey! Pikmin is a fun 3DS game, one of Nintendo’s better handheld platformers recently, but still not up to the quality and polish we’d expect from console Pikmin titles. Pikmin fans might be a bit disappointed by this one, but anyone willing to give it a shot will find a surprisingly deep and fun little adventure to while away the hours.

Hey! Pikmin has the series' charm, but its easy puzzles and ponderous pace make it a one-and-done puzzle platformer.

  • Solid and definitely has an audience. There could be some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.
