  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one of my favorite videogames of all time. It cannot be stated just how incredible the work that 343 Industries and multiple other studios have put into it over the past 5+ years to get it here. Any future compilation of titles should look to this as the benchmark for what a collection of beloved titles should be.

  • Aside from the poor progression, this is still Halo Reach. The addictive core gameplay returns with its stellar campaign and fantastic multiplayer offerings. Not only that, the price of admission is more than fair. When it released nine years ago I thought it was the best Halo and today I still feel the same way.

  • Post patching, Halo: The Master Chief Collection's small quirks can easily be overlooked, though we certainly haven't been pleased with matchmaking issues within the first couple of weeks. For those new to the universe of Halo, a vast array of single and multiplayer content awaits, all revolving around one of the greater ongoing stories available in gaming and featuring the franchise's hallmark genre-defining arena combat. For the more initiated, a chance to go back and relive many fond moments from a whole new perspective is also a boon.

Whether or not you have to pay for it (depending on when you purchased Master Chief Collection), Halo 3: ODST is every bit worth playing for the first time in 2015 as it was in 2009. It’s an example of what else Halo is capable of doing as a first-person shooter.

  • Halo fans will zip back and forth to their favourite moments, while new fans will quickly discover what all the fuss is about. Halo 2 may not shine as brightly as some might have hoped, and there’s some minor bugs that can also jar, but nothing stands in the way of what is a fabulous collection of campaigns.

  • And it's a testament to the quality of Halo games throughout the years that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an attractive package, despite the massive problems with online multiplayer. ...The Master Chief Collection is inviting, illuminating as it does the enduring appeal of the Halo series: to create worlds that are epic showpieces and elaborate playgrounds, places to triumph and places to play.

For me, being able to finally play Halo 2 multiplayer again was worth the price of admission, but toss in 100 maps, Forge, Spartan Ops (coming) and four of the best FPS campaigns in history and it is impossible not to recommend this. If you own an Xbox One this game is a must own. If not, it might be time to buy one.

  • It's a grand celebration and a potent reminder why the green Spartan rose to a level of prominence that few can match. Many HD collections or remasters are often pleasant trips down memory lane, but this feels like more than that. It's a gripping reintroduction into all things Halo and something that will likely be enjoyed for years to come.

  • The real treat for fans, of course, will be revisiting Halo 2's campaign and subsequently reliving the classic multiplayer. Even with the matchmaking issues, and even though Halo 2's campaign has its low points, the remastered ride is worth it, and having every other main Halo game in one place is an excellent bonus.

  • The added benefit of the Xbox One hardware also makes it better, with improved visuals in campaign and new Halo 2 Anniversary maps, as well as the control options. Add to this that the amount of extras are long and lasting, and you have a total package that makes for quite a high benchmark for all developers/publishers to meet when considering releasing a collection of a game series.
