- Halcyon 6: Lightspeed Edition is a deeply satisfying game that takes all of the best elements from some of the greatest strategy games out there and combines them in unexpected and fantastic ways. It may not always be the easiest game to navigate, but the payoff is 100% worth it. The amount of depth and replayability here all but guarantees it’s a game you’ll want to keep on your phone or tablet for a long, long time.
Campbell Bird · Oct 19, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander is an addictive title that forces you to make tough decisions for the good of your starbase. While it may have some unwarranted difficulty spikes, it’s still a fun, quirky space RPG that you should give a try if you’re in the market for that sort of thing.
Angelina Bonilla (Red Angel) · Oct 25, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - So much attention to detail was poured into the game, with enough moving parts working together, that it feels like a sprawling epic rather than the indie title that its low-fi graphics might imply. Being a title loaded with humor, action and more than a small amount of reverence for its inspirations, Massive Damage’s title is one of the deepest indie titles to emerge this year.
Jason Bohn · Sep 14, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Halcyon 6 has tremendous promise, but tedious resource gathering, repetitive combat, and bugs hurt what is otherwise an ambitious and interesting space sim. I can't quite recommend it right now, but I'd check back in six months or so: It may well be on its way to being something truly special.
Kat Bailey · Sep 13, 2016 Reviewed on PC - All these small things which Halcyon 6 gets just right combine to make it an undeniably good mid-weight strategy game and all-around great game, period. It tempts players without ever trapping them completely, all the while surprising and rewarding those who explore its quirks. The dilemmas presented stay interesting, even after hours and hours of playtime.
Michael Coffer · Nov 02, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - While Halcyon 6 doesn't do anything particularly new, its sci-fi strategy is very well executed.
Christian Valentin · Oct 25, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - What matters is that, despite all its flaws, the game is still plenty of fun and will probably have you saying to yourself “Just one more mission”. That combined with an extremely enjoyable soundtrack and gorgeous pixel art makes this a hard game not to recommend. I’m sure any fan of turn-based party combat will thoroughly enjoy Halcyon 6!
Davide Roriz · Nov 13, 2016 Reviewed on PC - There is nothing new as it is just more of the same, which was grindy to begin with. All the elements present come close to being this awesome game, but in the end the repetition of the core elements and the endless grind make it hard to recommend at this point, which is very unfortunate.
Eric Ace · Oct 04, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Combat is as deep as it is bracing, and working to fortify your crew and facilities proves to be incredibly addictive, making for a consistently enjoyable experience on both sides of the spacecraft. It's clichéd plot is uninspired and its sound design can be discordant at times, but it still doesn't limit Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander from being one of the most varied and thoughtfully crafted indies of the year.
Kieran Harris · Sep 23, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander fancies itself as combination of XCOM, FTL and Star Control with early Final Fantasy style combat and a healthy dollop of Star Trek flavouring. Unfortunately, it falls short of reaching the heights of any of its influences. Despite the sheer volume of options, upgrades and ships to play around with it rarely, if ever, provides you with interesting decisions to make. After a promising start, it quickly descends into an exercise in busywork or more downtime than a submarine commander.
