- Grime Definitive Edition is a fascinating action-platforming experience that I can’t recommend experiencing on the Switch. Its unique visual and narrative presentations will compel genre fans to the end, but the game would surely be better enjoyed without Switch performance problems dragging it down.
Kirk Hiner · Mar 13, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The developers of GRIME, Clover Bite, more than deserve all of the praise they’ve received over the last three years. GRIME is up there with the best Soulslike metroidvanias, and the Definitive Edition is great value for money due to all of the content included. As a result of all this GRIME II is one of my most anticipated games of 2024.
Steve Whiting · Feb 02, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - GRIME is a series of good to great pieces that are slightly held back by performance issues. Depending on when you’re reading this review I hope those are fixed because this game is fantastic. It’s beautiful, ugly, terrifying, and something any Metroidvania Soulslike fan should love.
Jesse Norris · Jan 11, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The new, generous, free DLC adds a significant amount of excellent content and rewards the player community for its commitment to the game. As it was when it released, Grime is still one of the best recent Soulslikes and the Colors of Rot only makes it better.
Mark Steighner · Dec 21, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There’s no arguing that GRIME is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful Metroidvanias ever created, and it’s obvious that a lot of love was put into it. Unfortunately, the attempt to create some kind of compromise between Dark Souls and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow created a product that, while still undoubtedly fun, felt a little too lukewarm at times to truly be considered “great.” I think that if certain things got revamped, GRIME could be a totally killer Metroidvania. But, until then, it’ll just be “good.”
Kenny McKee · Oct 01, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I don’t know what I was expecting from GRIME, but its unique absorbing mechanic, fast paced combat, and engaging platforming all come together. Whilst the genre of Souls-like Metroidvanias might be becoming oversaturated, GRIME does more than enough to be deserving of your attention.
Kyle Nicol · Sep 06, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grime is, much like its central character, an odd amalgamation of ideas, from Souls based RPGs, to platforming punch em ups, all oddly twisted into something that looks like a little nightmare all its own. If you’re looking for something different but utterly beautiful, then Grime is worth your time. Grime is out now and available on PC, Mac, and Stadia now.
Ed Orr · Aug 20, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - GRIME is worth every second of your time, even with the middle section from hell. Its bosses and music alone are worth the price of admission, but you’ve got an impressively built Metroidvania with RPG and Souls-like elements here, as well.
John Schutt · Aug 11, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hunt down and absorb challenging monsters to improve your skills and bring true customization to your play style. Battle against creatures dozens of times your size. Adapt to their strategies, withstand their assault, and consume them to gain game-changing abilities that affect both combat and traversal. An unusual material collapses in on itself, the world shudders and contracts, and suddenly you are squeezed into existence. What awaits you is a world unknown, alien in its own familiarity, and you must survive what terrors you face. Explore your surreal surroundings, absorb the many enemies you encounter, and use their own traits against them as you let yourself become far more than you once were.
David Wildgoose · Aug 09, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grime is a brutal rocky beast of a Metroidvania, set in a strange and truly alien world of bizarre monsters and darkly-beautiful landscapes. There’s a huge amount of imagination on display in every aspect of the visual design, whether that be the fantastic bosses in both mega- and mini- format, garden-variety enemies and the environments that house the constant action.
