- There's decent variety to Grid 2's grab-bag of events too, mixing up point-to-point races with closed road and track competitions and a handful of one-off promo events (like racing pickup trucks against the clock). What really keeps the experience fresh, though, is the admirably aggressive AI, which will happily shunt and nudge you cliffwards even on the medium difficulty setting. And, as a welcome counterweight, it will also make realistic mistakes itself.
Nathan Ditum · Jul 08, 2013 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grid 2 serves as a solid enough racing game with generally strong opponent AI. What it does not serve as is a worthy successor to the first game -- instead offering a stripped-down version of itself that is filled with lazy design, unfair AI opponents, special ESPN 'live' broadcasts that no one really asked for, and to top it all off, its bizarrely irritating narrator and loudly drunk or completely apathetic fans. If this is what racing in the modern age is, maybe it's time to hang up the helmet and find another hobby.
Casey Baker · Jul 02, 2013 Reviewed onRead full review - There’s no denying GRID 2 is a well-made game, but that’s not always enough. GRID 2 feels like a superbly crafted chair that’s just uncomfortable to sit in. You want to like it, but after an hour your butt hurts and you move back to the beanbag. If GRID 2 could completely embrace its arcade or sim influences, or better yet find a more elegant way to wed the two, it could be one of racing’s great series. Instead it’s Split/Second without the explosions or Blur without weapons.
Lawrence Sonntag · Jun 19, 2013 Reviewed on X360 - For many, Race Driver: GRID redefined the racing genre, and while GRID 2 hits many of the same beats as its predecessor, it never feels like it's trying to make the same impact. Instead, this is a fairly conservative effort that dismisses simulation driving in favour of adrenaline fuelled racing, resulting in an experience that, while fun to play, is a little safe.
Gaz Plant · Jun 18, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Grid 2 is a fun racing game that has an unfortunately aggressive AI and begins to feel a little stale about halfway through. It's still a strong arcade racing game that's more often fun than frustrating—even if you find yourself spamming the flashback button when clubbed by aggressive drivers who blast you into a spin or are a little too late or early on setting up a drift.
Blake Peterson · Jun 11, 2013 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Grid might have been gone for 5 years, but in those years it developed into a truly great and unique racing game. From the wide variety of cars, to the insane level of detail and the great audio, Grid 2 offers something for all racing fans. While simulation racing fans might not prefer the mix with arcade, Codemasters did a an excellent job blending the two styles and making something quite unique.
Lazar Odic · Jun 07, 2013 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Codemasters’ typical high presentation values and strong online play are intact. Once you get the hang of it GRID 2 handles like a dream. That being said, things are brought back down to earth with some questionable track designs, uber-aggressive AI and the occasional visual hiccup. GRID 2 may not meet the expectations set by the original game but overall it is still a solid racing experience.
Shad Forsyth · Jun 04, 2013 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Whether you're competing online or off, Grid 2 offers a fantastic blend of arcade and simulation racing. This is a game that wants you to experience the thrill of breakneck street racing, and gives you all the tools necessary to do just that. With terrific handling, gorgeous environments, and a broad selection of event types, Grid 2 slams on the gas and rarely slows down.
Shaun McInnis · Jun 04, 2013 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - A sequel five years in the making, there’s nothing particularly radical about Grid 2 and that’s just fine. Instead of putting all the action around a music festival or having hundreds of engine modifications, Grid 2 is all about delivering a solid racing title with little flash and no pretense. It fills a niche of being a title for those who don’t want to hold down a NOS button, yet don’t want to spend tens of hours mastering nuances in steering. With tons of cars, multiple events and a fantastic multiplayer mode, Grid 2 is proof that the series deserves to rank among the upper echelon of racing franchises.
Steve Hannley · Jun 04, 2013 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Yet another superlative racer to add to Codemasters' ever-expanding racing hall of fame, GRID 2 is an incredibly strong sequel. It may lack the initial 'wow factor' of the first game, but the handling is right on the money, the visuals are gorgeous and the hook provided by the story's WSR MacGuffin draws you right into the thick of the action, making for a more gratifying overall experience. GRID 2 steps on the gas from the get-go and doesn't let up.
