- Gravel is a game displaced. It’s a competent and occasionally pretty pick-up-and-play arcade racing game at its core, but it has the whiff of a game released in the wrong era – a scent it just can’t shake. A 2018 rendition of ’90s ambition. Gravel certainly channels the spirit and straightforward simplicity of Milestone’s own 1997 arcade off-roader Screamer Rally but it has no unique hook for today’s audience; no over-the-top arcade pizazz that folks will still be discussing 10 or 15 years down the track.
Luke Reilly · Mar 19, 2018 Reviewed on PC, XB1Read full review - Going online is a literal ghost town. I think I played one match in my time reviewing the game. On Xbox One there are simply no players frequenting the circuit. Sad as the racing in Gravel is actually pretty fun.Visually the game opts to take advantage of the Xbox One X in the form of 4K resolution. Sadly it is locked to 30fps and does not support HDR. Still the tracks are well-designed and the cars look good. There is a sort of generic drape over the entire game, but it still looks slick.

I’ve never jumped at an opportunity to review any racing game, but I’m especially glad that this one came my way. Once again, Milestone has demonstrated why they’re one of the premier racing developers. If you’re even a casual racing fan as I am, Gravel is absolutely worth your time.
Garrett Drake · Mar 12, 2018 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1Read full review - While Gravel has issues like strange collisions, cars literally merging into each other and some issues with shadows, there is a lot to say about it. There's a wide variety of racing types, tracks and cars to use. Almost everything is fast paced and entertaining and simply gratifying. Simply put, Gravel is a very good arcade style racing game and Milestones best game yet.
Chris Wray · Mar 12, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Throwing its ample range of vehicles around its generous assortment of off-road tracks is mostly an enjoyable experience, especially when you can engage in a bit of rough and tumble; your vehicle becoming suitably beaten up. It's never going to overly impress you, but it lays solid foundations for a series that could go somewhere. With its stunning scenery and fairly open track design, I'd love to see Milestone throw caution to the wind, add a boost button and go all-out arcade. Just then, we might have a worthy successor to Motorstorm on our hands.
Richard Seagrave · Mar 07, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - There's something appreciable about its no-nonsense style, and there's definitely some intermittent fun to be had with its arcade style racing. But it doesn't do anything that its contemporaries haven't done better before, and it fails to stand out as an enjoyable alternative, which is unfortunately reflected by its barren multiplayer component. Like the fireworks that occasionally ignite throughout select races, Gravel's attempts at excitement don't quite dazzle.
Richard Wakeling · Mar 07, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Gravel isn't perfect but it nails enough of the essentials and brings just enough style to the table to make it a great racing game overall.
John Cantees · Mar 05, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - While it won’t unseat Forza as king of racing games on the Xbox One, there is a lot of good fun to be had here. Gravel is both visually and audibly satisfying, and comes with a decent pool of content. It’s a shame that the game lacks a dynamic commentary system, but outside of this, only a few technical issues linger, pulling it just shy of greatness.
Joe Pepek · Mar 04, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Gravel is far from being the most revolutionary or entertaining racing title I’ve ever played, but in this day and age filled with either racing simulators, open world games, or cartoony kart titles, it’s nice to see a game going back to the core principles of arcade racing. It’s easy to pick up, easy to play, doesn’t care about being too realistic, and is just a quick and fun experience. Sure, its customization options and progression system are annoying as heck, and the game can be seen as a full-priced version of one of the gameplay types offered in titles like Forza Horizon. But I won’t deny I had fun with Gravel. It’s a modern age arcade racer, and a decent one at that.
Leo Faria · Feb 28, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Gravel offers fun racing with a variety of cars and environments. The Off-road Masters mode that includes the Gravel Channel storyline is a unique way to include a story that features boss battles with the one-one-one challenges. Otherwise the modes in Gravel are lacking and the visuals are severely hurting. There’s better car models in some mobile games, but at least the selection is enough to get past this and the game looks good in motion with the colors and the lighting.
