- Grandia HD combines two stunning timeless RPGs into a shoddy package that still suffers from framerate problems, graphical bugs, audio issues and glitches, but as some of the best PS1/Saturn RPGs, it’s worth figuring through these issues to experience something great.
Lewis White · Apr 19, 2024 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Grandia HD Collection takes two classic JRPG’s and makes them more readily available but with little in the way of extras and a big price tag this one isn’t going to appeal to anyone but the most hardcore of fans.
Terrence Johnson · Apr 09, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The GRANDIA HD Collection is the only way to experience these two great titles on modern platforms. Both Grandia and Grandia 2 stand the test of time with great writing and characters and a unique combat and skill upgrade system. It's just a shame that not enough was done to provide quality-of-life upgrades. The only real updates these games have received are game visuals and widescreen support.
Garri Bagdasarov · Apr 02, 2024 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The Grandia HD Collection works to preserve two classic JRPGs that may not have the name recognition or clout of other long-running franchises. While it is relatively bare bones, the HD Collection is a wonderful excuse to dive into the series.
BEN SHEENE · Mar 27, 2024 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Grandia HD Collection makes two classic, influential RPGs more readily available to a modern audience. But with little in the way of extras and quite a steep asking price, it is unlikely to appeal to anyone other than the most hardcore genre enthusiasts.
Khayl Adam · Mar 27, 2024 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall, the Grandia HD Collection contains an awesome soundtrack, fair visuals, and fairly decent story. Both games combat is very fluid and has that something that newer games are missing with their combat system I think. Whether you played this game in your younger days, or this is the first time touching it, you will find the games very easy to get into, and the fact that you can carry it around with you on the Switch makes it that much easier to play.
Chris Bowman · Sep 11, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Do I recommend playing these games? Oh yes, absolutely. Grandia 1 and 2 deserve four stars by themselves. The games are dated, yes, but they stand the test of time, flaws and all. They are (mostly) timeless and I would replay them over and over. But maybe wait for this specific collection to go on sale.
James Robinson · Sep 06, 2019 Reviewed on Switch - Having never played a Grandia game, I came in not knowing much about the series and what makes it great. Walking away, I’m left in awe of not only the battle system, but also how you power up your party. The port is a bit rough when it comes to slow down, particularly in battles, but it’s worth dealing with the inconvenience to experience this classic.
Casey Gibson · Sep 03, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Grandia HD Collection has a few issues but in spite of these is a still a worthwhile addition to any JRPG fan’s collection. The two games are classic gems that flew under many people’s radar during their initial release but are also fun even if this is the first time playing them. There are minor modernization tweaks to the titles and some technical issues do mar the experience, but even with these concessions, having these two titles available to play on the go is hard to complain about. They show their age and have some flaws, but their good outweighs their bad and each title provides a different but memorable adventure.
Chris Shive · Aug 30, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - As a Grandia fan, it’s been an absolute joy replaying these classic games on Switch. Parts of it are starting to feel a bit dated, but hot damn they’re still a blast to play. Thanks to a wonderful cast of characters, superb soundtracks, and an addictive combat system, Grandia and Grandia II are surprisingly accessible, even 20 years later. If you’re in the mood for more classic JRPG’s on Switch, the Grandia HD Collection will more than fill that void. It’s absolutely grand.
