- Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has many good features but is far from flawless. Nevertheless, it's a huge improvement over where the fighting game is and has been a fantastic experience. The characters are well-designed, and the new mechanics are satisfying to use, even though they might not revolutionize the series. Although there are still a few things that could use some tweaking, and we all know that long-distance matches are something to steer clear of, the game seems comprehensive. Consider giving Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising a go if you were unsure about buying it and hadn't tried the free version—you could end up liking it.
Rayan · Jan 25, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a decent anime fighter and a clear step up from its predecessor, but it isn’t without its problems, some of which persist from the last game. I’m also not entirely sure of the longevity of the game, especially with how extortionate the Season 1 Pass is and the low install base this soon after launch, but fans of anime fighting games and the Granblue universe should be pleased with the overall package here.
Reuben Mount · Jan 03, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising is an excellent surprise. The game offers an original combat system, has a cast rich enough for everyone to find something to suit them, and has an excellent online mode. The comparison with the previous opus is inevitable, but the recycling seems to have been done intelligently: we keep what is good and we improve the rest while adding things on top. The game fully deserves its price for a new game, even if Versus players may be left a little unsatisfied, with ultimately few additions for the solo part (and what's more, it's not the best part). It is also this lack of single-player content that prevents us from considering it a must have, unless you are really a fan of fighting games or a fan of the license.
Waulk · Jan 02, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Whether viewed as a full-fledged sequel or enhanced re-release, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is an improvement over its predecessor in just about every way. The single player content is of decent quantity for a fighting game, but could easily be completed in a single weekend. Most of the longevity will come from the multiplayer components, whether it be fighting against other players online in traditional matches or getting into some of the more unexpected minigames in Grand Bruise Legends. The accessibility is one of the best features Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising in that it allows newcomers the ease to jump in and pull off impressive combos, yet the system is complex enough that it requires dedication to master. As it stands this is a great fighting game for players of all experience and skill levels.
Chris Shive · Dec 30, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - That said, I will admit Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising is not for everyone. It isn’t for me, as the sometimes filler-like content bloats the experience but, ultimately, feels bland. But the positive is some fighting game fans or existing Granblue Fantasy fans may enjoy this title. It has some solid accessible features. But, unless you played the first game, you should probably check out the free version and see if it is up your alley first.
Cody Perez · Dec 22, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Want to get into fighting games but are intimidated by obtuse mechanics and exhaustive move sets? Check out Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. This exceptional fighter is the definition of ‘easy to learn, hard to master,’ while offering a healthy amount of modes. There’s a free-to-play version, too.
Rhys Wood · Dec 22, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a redemption and course correction that the series sorely needed to compete against some fantastic FGs out on the market already. If not for the overpriced DLC and lackluster single player content, it could have been “THE” anime fighter to beat. As it stands, it’s one I’m sure to go back to play from time to time and eager to see played at a high level during the majors coming later this year.
Jae Lee · Dec 20, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising improves on the original in almost every way, and while not quite at the level of the very best in the genre, it still offers enjoyable fighting experience.
Ravi Sinha · Dec 18, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is more than just a simple “version-up” of the original game. It systematically addresses virtually every issue I had with it at launch in 2020 – including replacing the dated, delay-based netcode with excellent rollback, filling out the initially small roster of 11 to an excellent collection of 28 highly unique and varied characters, and adding a number of quality-of-life improvements, like better training tools, character-specific tutorials, and more. Even in a crowded year of excellent fighting games, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising stands out as one of the best.
Mitchell Saltzman · Dec 16, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is a gorgeous looking fighter with a simplistic approach to combat that welcomes players of all skill levels.
