  • In the relaxing simulation game Godus, we play a God that controls and takes care of his worshippers by gradually changing the planet’s terrain and commanding people to build and explore new lands.

  • Fun for the first hour, this quickly turns into a slog of Biblical proportions. In the pantheon of the gamer gods, Godus is at best a minor deity, and one that you’ll only want to worship for an hour a day.

  • First, it focuses more on management rather than in tacticism. Second, its minimalistic 3D graphics are far from being mainstream. And, finally, its controls are mobile-native (drag, hold, flick and swipe): you can even play it with just one hand. In conclusion, Godus is a must-have game for those who enjoy strategy and management games. Especially for those who once had a blast playing Populous.

  • Be patient and you'll eventually see that Godus is one of the better free-to-play simulators out there. Its control method is far superior to the tapping frenzy of others and it certainly looks glorious, but it's not the lofty efforts that we were expecting.

  • Godus is a fun simulation game. For a free download, it gives you a lot of value and is a very deep experience. Its slow pace and premium add-ons might turn some people off, but it is still a very solid title.

  • Maybe if I get a hundred hours (or dollars) into the game, then something radical will occur, but Godus has done nothing to earn my faith. If I wait a week, I'll be able to play an unfun Lemmings-inspired minigame. I suspect I'll rain meteors on my settlement and call it a day before then.

  • Not all is lost. At the heart there is a really good, even revolutionary game engine here. But at some point it was massively corrupted by the desire to make it free to play and many missed deadlines. You can tell that wasn’t the end goal as 22 Cans even makes fun of free to play in the PC version — calling it “dirty.”

  • The game does the hard work of hooking you in, but is insistent on pushing you away straight after unless you cough up cash, which feels both insulting and desperate.

  • An imaginative, lovely looking game that somehow conspires to render godhood dull and repetitive.

About the game

GODUS empowers you in the role of a god, allowing you to sculpt every inch of a beautiful world that you look down upon, on which a population of Followers settle and multiply. As you mould every aspect of your unique utopia, a civilisation will blossom across your land and offer you their belief. The more Followers that believe in you, the more powerful you will become.
