  • Gerda: A Flame in Winter is an unforgettable adventure. Its compelling graphics and evocative music provide a backdrop for a powerful World War II narrative, which builds to an unusually suspenseful finale.

  • Overall, Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a fantastic story told through an interactive novel. The well-written dialogue and varied pathways, along with some simple RPG elements, create an engaging experience that’s sure to keep players engrossed. Much like a good book, this is one game that’s hard to put down.

  • In Gerda: A Flame In Winter, you have six hours to live a small but eventful life, full of contradictions and moral torment. It is the life of a person who did not participate in his own war but who understands that it will not work to stay away anyway.

  • In a medium preoccupied with guns and bombs and violent, power-fantasy notions of heroism, Gerda: A Flame in Winter treads a quieter path through its World War II setting, and is perhaps all the more powerful for it.

  • Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a masterful work of art in both the gaming and storytelling spheres; both aspects enhanced by the other, their impact reduced should they be somehow disconnected from each other.

  • Honestly, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Gerda: A Flame in Winter. I thought it was going to be another depressing journey like This War of Mine, but it ended up being much more hopeful and insightful than I was expecting. I’m thoroughly impressed with how well written the characters are, making you see them all not as inherently good or evil, but rather in moral shades of gray. To me, this is one of the most realistic depictions of how people lived, died, and tried to survive during that reprehensible time in our history.

  • Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a brilliantly done RPG. In the art department, it is insanely good, but the sound design could be done in a way that immerses the players a lot more than it does in its current state.

  • Gerda: A Flame In Winter is a heart-wrenching wake-up call that World War 2 will likely never be adequately represented in video games. But this slow-paced narrative-driven RPG, which teaches its audience about a side of the war they may never have heard about, is the closest we will ever get.

  • Gerda: A Flame in the Winter will take most players around five or six hours, but there’s a lot more to see after the credits roll. The writing is so good that I’d certainly recommend doing so.

  • In conclusion, Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a great experience that simply isn’t usually told. The game isn’t particularly long, at about 5-6 hours, but it is intended to be played more than once to see the alternate possibilities. It also shows a side of the War that isn’t shown very often because it isn’t glitzy and glamorous.
