- Increasing the difficulty doesn't make for any drastic change beyond the enemies taking more damage, so Gauntlet: Slayer Edition will likely only become a long-term dungeon crawl for those looking to buy every possible weapon, ability, and article of clothing for their chosen hero. ...Gauntlet: Slayer Edition streamlines the combat and adds a bit more replay value to last year's release, but there still isn't quite enough meat on this dungeon crawler's bones.
Dave Rudden · Aug 20, 2015 Reviewed on PC, PS4Read full review - Gauntlet Slayer Edition is a fantastic co-op game, and a decent solo experience. Fighting is fun, simple, and the addiction of one more level or getting more gold is as real as ever. That being said, if you’re expecting this Gauntlet to be more like Dark Legacy or more colorful and zany, think again. Gauntlet Slayer edition harkens back to a re-imaging of the classic game that started it all.
Justin Celani · Aug 18, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Jumping online is where the game gets hectic, but way more fun, and the tongue-in-cheek nature of the dialog and story offer up a few laughs at times. I would say pick it up, but if you do, try to at least convince one or two friends to pick it up with you. You’ll all have a more enjoyable time together.
Drew Leachman · Oct 08, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - At its core, Gauntlet is incredibly Gauntlety, but it does little to set itself apart from more fleshed out titles in the ARPG category. The Relic system is a fun addition, with each relic basically offering a special ability for you to use, but doesn't add nearly as much depth to the game as the gear systems in place in most comparable games. ...Gauntlet is as much fun as it has ever been, but it'll get old fast for those who still remember slogging through the original.
Joshua Vanderwall · Oct 07, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The Sword in the Darkness stays the course for Telltale's Game of Thrones series, though it still feels like the story is waiting around for something to finally happen. We're nearing the halfway mark already, and the many characters in House Forrester seems to be more or less in the same quandary as the first episode.
Paul Tamburro · Oct 07, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s a fun game, when all is said and done. Still, even though repetition is not always a bad thing, just look at any card game in existence, sometimes it turns out that nostalgia is just not enough. After all, how many of us still really want to run from the graveyard back to our corpse?
Robert Lashley · Oct 03, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The end result is a game that seems stuck in an uncomfortable middle ground, harboring more intricacy and challenge than the Gauntlet pedigree implies, but too bare-bones of a package to stand tall next to the action role-playing games currently competing for your time. The new Gauntlet has charms, and teaming up to take down the endless hordes is one of its most gratifying ones, but in a game like this, you shouldn't have to fight so hard for your right to party.
Justin Clark · Sep 29, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Gauntlet is an accessible co-op dungeon crawler that's at its best with a group of friends. It may be on the shorter side, but while it lasts it's an unpredictable and memorable experience. Hopefully this is only the first of many steps into the perilous Gauntlet.
Michael Huber · Sep 29, 2014 Reviewed on PC - While Gauntlet offers higher difficulty modes and some cool looking gear unlocks after you finish the three area hubs, my group wasn’t inspired to continue further. There’s definitely a charming old-school spark to this reboot, but without anything beyond the constant monster mashing and levels that seem to blend together, you may find yourself needing excitement badly.
Daniel Tack · Sep 29, 2014 Reviewed on PC - If you want an old-school adventure that will let you hack, slash and steal stuff from your buddies, Gauntlet’s for you. The dungeons may be a bit repetitive and could have more variety, but the fun is there.
