- The voice acting from the known characters – Tyrion, Cersei, Ramsay Snow and Margaery Tyrell all feature – is perfectly fine, although the script is at times slightly twee (barring some awkwardly shoehorned swearing). As debuts go this lags behind those of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, but there's promise… and the ending means you've GOT (*ahem*) to play the follow-up.
Games Radar · Feb 16, 2015 Reviewed onRead full review - All in all, a pretty mediocre first episode of something that should have delivered greatness. Yes, there’s going to be five more episodes, so it’s too early to dismiss the entire game, but sadly I’m not excited for the next instalment. I want to be, and I hope the next chapter changes my mind, but at the moment, the characters don’t grab me and make me want to know what’s going to happen.
Kim · Feb 03, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Game of Thrones is more of the same output from Telltale. It won’t necessarily win over critics of their previous titles (unless they’re huge fans of the show or novels, maybe), but that certainly isn’t a bad thing. Game of Thrones captures the political intrigue and decision-making that makes the world George R.R. Martin created so interesting in the first place, even if it is on a smaller scale.
Campbell Bird · Jan 12, 2015 Reviewed onRead full review - Some of the most shocking scenes are unavoidable, however, due to the railroading of the decisions. The environments and animations aren't as smooth and detailed as they could be either, but the voice-acting and overall dialogue keep the game from slipping too far off course.
Nick Tan · Jan 06, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Telltale does an amazing job of immersing you in the machinations, intrigue and violence that are a hallmark of the franchise. Of course, this is also what many players will find appealing: the chance to finally test your mettle and force your will upon a familiar world where winter is coming. ...An enthralling first episode made specifically for Game of Thrones fans.
Chad David · Dec 27, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - The premiere episode in Telltale’s Game of Thrones series does a lot of things right. Certainly, it manages to capture the political overtones as well as the high fantasy setting of the series it is based on, and it does them justice, bringing in new characters and plots not adapted from the book series. That’s an achievement in itself, and while it doesn’t stray too much from Telltale’s formula, it adapts an excellent property to something which we’ve seen hit the mark time and time again.
Blair Inglis · Dec 15, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - There are reasons to like Iron From Ice, but they’re few and far between. In the moment, it can be thrilling to spar words with Cersei or choose whether to execute a thief or send him to the Wall. For that to work, however, you have to be willing to put up with a lot: the slow pacing, the exaggerated visuals, the awful animation and the fact that those choices don’t make much of a difference at all.
Thomas Ella · Dec 13, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Game of Thrones: Episode 1 - Iron from Ice is certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it hits nowhere near as hard as it maybe should have. Bits and pieces show promise for future episodes – particularly the conclusion – but all of the pieces are not yet in place. With more playable characters and an extra episode in this season, there’s definitely potential here – it’s just not been realised so far.
Graham Banas · Dec 10, 2014 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The first episode of the game series is a finely crafted adventure game adaptation — it’s a good blade with a few imperfections, but with some polish and sharpening, it will be keen as a blade in the night. Overall, the issues are often very minor and take away little from the experience.
Ryan Meitzler · Dec 09, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I am hoping that Telltale gets around to fixing the voice syncing issue, as well as whatever is causing the lag, because as it stands they have a great bit of Game of Thrones lore going on here, but it is just so heavily damaged by the delivery that I can’t completely recommend it just yet.
