  An example of what the Kinect can do when used creatively, Fru is a remarkably fun and hilarious puzzle-platformer that demands as much from your body as it does your mind. It’s bittersweet that it arrived so late to the party.

  FRU bills itself as “The last Kinect game you’ll ever need to play!” While it may be easy to make jokes about that statement just based on the first few words alone, what we have here is not only what may very well be the best Kinect game ever, but also one of the year’s best puzzlers and platforming games overall.

  It’s sad that Fru came out so long after the Kinect was a viable gaming peripheral. Had it released closer to the Xbox One’s launch, we might’ve been able to laud it as a reason to own a Kinect. As is, it’s a solid little puzzle-platformer that might be worth a look if you haven’t packed your Kinect away—assuming you ever got one in the first place.

  The fluid movement, artwork, music, and technology all come together in FRU for a mesmerizing experience that really shows what the Kinect is capable of, or should I say was capable of. I can't imagine too many more games will be made for it, if any. At least people with Kinects can have one game to try to justify the purchase aside from some fancy voice controls.

  It’s a clever hook, with the challenge escalating gradually until you are both struggling to contend with the complexity of the in-game puzzles and your real-world positioning. You’ll look silly while playing it, of course, but then that’s half the fun of it. Fru has a way of constantly surprising and that’s a testament to its smart design choices – though many will likely be disappointed when this relatively short game comes to an end.

  Overall, this is the game that Kinect has been dying for. It’s clever and makes you think without having to rely on gimmicky interactions. But it’s a shame that it’s come at a time when the Kinect seems to have been shuffled off to one side like the kid that always gets picked last to play football.

  FRU is a fun and memorable game, and well worth plugging your Kinect back in for. But given that the Xbox One S can’t even use one without a separate adapter suggests that Microsoft hold no hope that FRU is going to inspire some great turnaround in the peripheral’s fortunes.

  Es un poco triste que un estudio independiente le dé más apoyo a Kinect que la propia Microsoft, pero lo cierto es que, junto con Fantasia: Music Evolved, FRU es el mejor juego que hay para Kinect en Xbox One. Divertido, original y fresco, a poco que tengas Kinect y un mínimo de interés en usarlo, nosotros lo recomendamos sin reservas, particularmente si tienes pensado jugarlo con alguien.

  No es perfecto, por ofrecer una narrativa demasiado ligera y no ser precisamente un reto longevo, pero sí que se trata de un título que hay que probar, como mínimo, para saber lo que nos perdimos cuando los programadores abandonaron la idea de sacar partido a este periférico repleto de posibilidades.
