  In terms of visuals, the game does look good with sharp textures, with villagers going about their business with a variety of animations. The switch between the cold and warm months also adds to the visual flair, especially as snow builds up, which makes up for the fact that you won’t see a lot of environmental variety in the different maps found in Frozenheim. A map editor would have alleviated this issue somewhat, but that is not part of the package.

  Frozenheim is a solid addition to the city-building RTS genre. The game is pretty to look at and the game loop, though a bit short, is enjoyable with virtually no learning curve. With a number of single-player options and multiplayer capability, there are plenty of hours worth of enjoyment here, but nothing new or genre-defining.

  Frozenheim has a huge amount going for it and manages to touch on a number of ideas that do, largely, work. It just needs a little more time to the in game combat, but there is a great game in out there on the open plains just waiting for Odin’s blessing.

  Frozenheim is probably the most serene war-mongering games I’ve ever played with a lot of fun details that truly flesh out the entire experience. Not quite a city-builder but not entirely a full-on RTS, Frozenheim toes a themed line between the two genres in a fascinating, relaxing way. It has the potential to be a much more in-depth challenge, but for now, it’s a somewhat casual romp through Scandinavian lands (until a neighboring nord horde burns your village down, of course).

  Frozenheim is a solid arrangement of primitive economics and warfare and should scratch an itch for anyone looking to enjoy a solid strategy experience, either solo or with friendly opponents.

  Frozenheim is a fun and unpolished title. The game features fun settlement building and engaging combat, but it is bogged down with a poor story, a lack of content (Units and Buildings) and due to that has a severe lack of replayability. Despite these negatives. Frozenheim still manages to be a fun and engaging experience.

  Overall, the two aspects of combat and city building seem to clash against one another. This is partially due to the real-time gameplay and the overall imbalanced economy. Players will either find themselves only gaining enough supplies for their war effort - akin to RTS games like Warcraft - or having a stable society that doesn’t go out and conquer. But, those that like this oil and water non-mix will have great fun with Frozenheim.

  Frozenheim is a well-made city builder that focuses on one historical period and culture. Its story and RTS elements still feel undercooked, not bad but not as fully realized as the construction sim aspects. With a short campaign, no scenario editor, and sandbox experiences that always play out sort of the same, a long term relationship with Frozenheim is difficult.

  Frozenheim is a video game in search of an identity. It would have been better served by leaning into its city-building side, challenging players to find the best ways for their Vikings to thrive in inhospitable lands. The combat is so limited that it would have been easy to drop it entirely or just abstract it in some way.

  Frozenheim doesn't do enough to stand out; furthermore, it suffers from some severe problems. The camera controls, unit controls, and just its overall feel makes it seem far more like an alpha build than something ready for release. While there are some small interesting things like finding free resources on the map, the game is not one to recommend.
