- With stunning pixel-art graphics, solid combat, and a considerable amount of character customization, you can easily sink a few hours into Foregone, maybe more if you delve into more challenging difficulty levels. However, if you’re looking for a complex Metroidvania full of backtracking and deep lore, I would look elsewhere. Foregone may have left me feeling a bit cold, but if you’re looking for some straightforward side-scrolling action, I suspect it will nicely scratch that itch!
Jonathan Logan · Jun 13, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Though it lends its own spin to a classic video game genre, fans of the 2D platformer will notice some cues going back to the SNES days. If you love this stuff, there’s every reason to give Foregone a shot. But if you suffer from platformer fatigue, there may not be enough here to rekindle that spirit. If you’re new to the genre, you could do a lot worse than Foregone.
Mario Brash · Mar 11, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Foregone offers three difficulty levels on top of all of this, but on the recommended normal level, the game is refreshingly manageable. It does a great job of making the player feel like the most powerful being around (for the most part), without making her absurdly overpowered in the process.
Jason D'Aprile · Mar 09, 2021 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - There is an interesting story element and some nice scenery along the way; some of the backgrounds are really well done. The themes may not be unique or highly differentiated from a lot of other platformers, but this genre has been around for a long time so it is a bit saturated.
David Temple · Nov 13, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It pays tribute to tons of previously released games without ever standing out on its own. With that being said, that’s not a dealbreaker by any means. It’s still a very polished experience if you’re looking for a traditional action platformer instead of yet another indie roguelike on the Switch. Sometimes, playing safe is the best option.
Leo Faria · Nov 08, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s clear that Foregone struggles to define itself within the genre on a surface level. In practice, however, the complementary elements and design choices mesh in a way that makes it feel quite unique. It is unlikely to evoke passion from those who already dislike the genre, but there is enough value to justify giving it a shot simply for the fluidity of its gameplay.
Mike Takahashi · Nov 05, 2020 Reviewed on XB1 - Foregone is a solid offering. Combat, progression, and platforming are all fast, fluid, and engaging. What it lacks in fresh, original concepts and mechanics it makes up for a refined Metroidvania experience. If you are looking for a fun, engaging platformer with a good story and some refined mechanics, Foregone delivers.
Matt Keith · Nov 02, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Foregone is a wonderful surprise in a crowded genre of gaming. There are a ton of other titles exactly like it, but this one just stands head and shoulders above the rest. I cannot recommend this game enough. It might tick all the usual boxes, but it ticks them extremely well. I haven’t had this much reverence for a game of this type in a long time. Do not sleep on Foregone.
Ken McKown · Oct 29, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Overall, Big Blue Bubbles’ latest addition to the Metroidvania genre is a really enjoyable game that I had a ton of fun with. While it may be yet another Dead Cells clone, its weighty combat, challenging foes, slick maneuverability, and gorgeous aesthetics do just enough to set Foregone apart from its contemporaries. So if mad-dashing, action-adventure platforming is your niche, then picking this one up will be well worth your time.
Greg Peterson · Oct 23, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - All in all Forgone has been super fun for me. Sure, I could nit-pick at some very minor changes but what Big Blue Bubble has made is something awesome and that all platforming fans should give it a look. I think it provides the right amount of challenge for all gamers approaching it.
