Football Manager Classic 2014 performs decently as both a companion app to the PC version and as a good standalone game in its own right. It’s true that this surprisingly feature-packed portable effort does have a few issues - the small text and fiddly touch controls being the main offenders - but the core experience of tactical battles, financial and man management remains as addictive as ever.

  • For newcomers, it might be a little alien to spend so much time just sitting watching a largely non-interactive set of match highlights or progress screens between the many menus and options but if you have some patience, a love for the sport and a lot of time, Football Manager Classic 2014 on Vita is likely to consume you.

  • Football Manager Classic is anything but. It's simply made me want to go back and play the PC version rather than sit around bored for what feels like ages waiting for a single Vita match to end. A great simulation might still be running behind the scenes, but the Vita doesn't present it in a way that you'll want to experience.

  • The fact that it is portable makes it that much more attractive, potentially even more so if you also own the PC version. It’s not as complete as that is, but it comes quite close. If you own a Vita and love this type of title then you simply have to buy it. Is it worth buying a Vita for? I guess that comes down to how much you love Football Manager.

  • If you, like Manchester United gaffer David Moyes, want to run a major football team from a bathroom stall, now is your opportunity. SEGA has brilliantly crammed the entire Football Manager experience onto the Vita, without much of a break in quality.

  • A well-enough produced port that doesn't diminish the Football Manager brand, but doesn't do anything to propel it forward either. While the game works to a fitting degree, you can't help but think that more time spent on the touch screen controls would have resulted in a significantly improved experienced. Still, Football Manager is now available on the move.

  • Ultimately Football Manager Classic 2014 both succeeds and fails. The accuracy and simulation is flawless, and it's as addictive as it ever was. But the nature of having to wait for long stretches while data is being saved and processed, and the troublesome interface, means that we found ourselves booting up Football Manager 2014 on Steam instead of carrying on with the Vita edition.

...but not a gamebreaker. It won’t bring your addiction back a fresh, but it may well prolong it.

  • It's not perfect, and the controls in particular are annoying, but there's a decent management sim here all the same
