  • Flower is a gorgeous, well-crafted and relaxing game, but I have to say, I don’t get the massive love towards it. Its “story”, if you can call it that, is far from deep and thought-provoking as some say it is, its duration is borderline insulting for its asking price, and it just doesn’t motivate you to replay it after you’re done with its half a dozen levels. Sadly, Flower isn’t as meaty as it should be. A fair point in a way, given it’s a game about plants.

  • Flower is a relaxing and beautiful game that is a totally fun and immersive until you reach the very end of it. In its final moments, Flower drops the ball pretty hard by subverting a lot of the things that made it so great in service of hitting players over the head with a message it had already been conveying much more elegantly before. Still though, it's hard to think of many other games (on the App Store or otherwise) that are as delightfully expressive as Flower, and that alone makes it an important game worth playing.

  • The sheer simplicity of flower makes it a difficult game not to fall in love with. It’s a relaxing, calming, and curiously moving experience that has the power to change the way that you look at the outside world. Moreover, the improved motion sensors inside the DualShock 4 coupled with the enhanced horsepower of Sony’s fresh hardware breathe new life into the experience, ensuring that this former PS3 favourite blossoms all over again on the PS4.

  • Flower is beautiful and relaxing, perfect for chilling out with, and replaying the full game from start to finish for the first time in years felt almost as good as playing for the first time. In an industry where four years is practically a lifetime, Flower hasn’t aged a day. It’s worth a replay if you’ve already got the PS3 version, and if you’ve never played it before, then there’s no prettier way to inaugurate your new console.

  • For me, it’s like rediscovering an old friend who I'm delighted to find has actually gotten better with age. The previous generation's definitive chill-out game gets a lovely visual makeover for the next. And it's still as cool as ever.

Whether you’ve never heard of Flower or you replay it regularly, the PlayStation 4 version is an excellent, unforgettable return to one of PlayStation’s finest games. It’s still profound, and now it looks and feels better than ever. For those who appreciate experimental artistry, Flower’s zen exploration is as good as it gets. Plus, it’s free if you already own it on another platform.

  • Just as you might improperly dismiss Flower as "not a game," you might also improperly dismiss it for its brevity: You could easily finish in an hour, and that hour progresses at a relaxed pace, lulling you into security rather than pumping adrenaline into your nerves. ...Like a snowy mountain ridge or a tranquil river valley, Flower invites introspection and inner calm, and that kind of interactive experience is almost as rare now as it was when I first surfed these winds.

  • Flower is not entirely bereft of flaws. The Sixaxis motion controls may be fun to use but they lack tight precision - something that only becomes a vague issue during the fifth stage, where there are hazards to avoid. It's also possible to get stuck from time to time, forcing you to speed all over the level in an effort to find the one plant that must be touched before you can move to the next area.

  • If you're looking for high-speed thrills and white-knuckled action, it should come as no great surprise that Flower is not your cup of tea. Yet its atypical approach is precisely what makes it so intriguing for those yearning for something off the beaten path. It's a short experience, with the six levels lasting a little over an hour, but it's one modestly priced release that will linger with you long after its bloom fades.

  • Flower is a wonderful title that isn’t hard to recommend. The gorgeous visuals, superb motion controls, and refined gameplay elements come together to create a satisfying game. There’s more underneath the surface of thatgamecompany’s polished title. If you want to be soothed, it can. If you want an awesome visual experience, it can be that. If you want to be surprised, you probably will be. Do yourself a favor and check this out.
