- Three Hopes is one of the best musou spin-offs released to date, combining its tried-and-tested gameplay with a level of story depth that was missing in the first Fire Emblem Warriors. Its sheer scope may be a bit much for players simply looking for a hack-and-slash action game, though.
Chris Scullion · Jun 21, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, my time with Fire Emblem Warriors was fun but it’s most certainly more fun for long time Fire Emblem fans. The fan service is top-notch and there are a ton of cool cameos from past characters in the franchise. The cutscenes and visuals are amazing–something I can’t wait to see more of when the next Fire Emblem game comes to the Switch.
Justin Sharp · Jan 09, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Fire Emblem Warriors is an exemplary marriage of two series. It’s recognizably Fire Emblem, unabashedly Warriors, and all in a way that fits together and feels perfectly complementary to each. Although the game’s storytelling and technical prowess fall short, there’s no denying that Fire Emblem Warriors is an energetic, familiar kind of fun.
Janine Hawkins · Nov 20, 2017 Reviewed onRead full review - Fans of Fire Emblem who do not own a Switch but own a New Nintendo 3DS should certainly give this game a try. In the end, Fire Emblem Warriors captures many aspects of what fans of the series love, and I say this as a fan of strategy RPGs who has sunk countless hours into the Fire Emblems series and others in the genre.
Heath Shusterman-Zimmerman · Nov 13, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Despite my grievances, I still think Fire Emblem Warriors is a great game. It’s strategic, it’s fast-paced, it’s frantic and fun. Even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights that Hyrule Warriors left on the Wii U and the 3DS, Fire Emblem Warriors is still a title that Switch owners would be remiss to lose out on.
James Galizio · Nov 09, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Good enough to get the job done can be the game’s motto, actually. It’s not a bad game at all, but it never feels like it goes the extra mile, either. It’s an alright game with some good fan service especially for more recent Fire Emblem fans, and some fun gameplay, but some extremely poor choices, mostly pertaining to map design and multiplayer, hold back a game that otherwise could have been far more than it turned out to be.
Pramath Parijat · Nov 08, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Fire Emblem Warriors continues the excellent port of Nintendo’s franchises into the world of musou. The little additives from the franchise translate well into the genre. The art style is outstanding and the combat is just as fun (if not repetitive) as it has always been. This is another solid entry for Nintendo’s latest machine.
Ken McKown · Nov 02, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - While the Dynasty Warriors style of gameplay appropriately sits front and center in Fire Emblem Warriors, the lack of genre melding with an RPG is disappointing. Players will enter into each battle with plenty of chances to smash buttons and oggle at Fire Emblem characters destroying one another, but the heart of the tactical RPG franchise doesn’t make a proper appearance. Too bad, too, because this might have been a wasted opportunity to really experiment with the musou genre.
Evan Slead · Oct 27, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The malleable quality of Fire Emblem’s weapons-triangle and pairing systems make them a natural fit for the hack n’ slash genre. Even when I could barely tell what was going on on the crowded battlefield and my troops were a little too codependent, I enjoyed directing the action and jumping in to be part of the carnage. And while Fire Emblem Warriors makes poor use of the Fire Emblem universe’s story and history, we still get traces of the relationships between the characters that make it memorable.
Meghan Sullivan · Oct 24, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Fire Emblem Warriors pays tribute to the most recent 3DS titles that helped the series take off in recent years. While it would have been more varied if they had included more than just a handful of characters from older entries, it still creates an enjoyable action packed spin-off for new and old Fire Emblem fans alike. Fire Emblem Warriors is an easy title to pick up and play at any time, regardless if just doing one mission or sitting down to grind for a full session.
