Critic Reviews
- Fire Emblem Heroes is Nintendo’s gacha hero collector RPG set in the popular Fire Emblem franchise and universe.
WiseCrow · Jul 26, 2020 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Fire Emblem Heroes is lacking in ways that a Fire Emblem game shouldn’t, but it’s still an enjoyable, accessible game that fans of the series and the genre should be able to enjoy.
Shubhankar Parijat · Apr 04, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Obviously someone is – with reports that the game’s already made over $5 million since launch. Still, that’s a topic for another time. This is a review and I’ve got to say I’m impressed with the game. It’s bitesize fighting with just enough tactical challenge.
Matt Parker · Feb 20, 2017 Reviewed on And - With a winning combo of exciting, familiar gameplay and diverse content, Fire Emblem Heroes manages to do what none of its predecessors have succeeded at: It gets me invested in mobile gaming, to the point where I'm almost willing to indulge in the platform's most insidious capitalist tricks. Almost.
Allegra Frank · Feb 17, 2017 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - When the incentive to keep playing is to be able to keep playing, it’s easy to burn out on Fire Emblem Heroes. Aside from obtaining your favorite characters--if you even care about that--Fire Emblem Heroes becomes less and less rewarding as time goes on. Grinding can only be fun for so long before chasing rare allies becomes a chore, and in that sense it caters to two ends of a wide spectrum while offering little incentive for anyone in between.
Kallie Plagge · Feb 13, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Despite never having played a Fire Emblem game, I feel confident in saying that Heroes isn't a proper entry in the series. Trying to look at Heroes that way kind of misses the point though. Fire Emblem Heroes is a gacha-style game first and foremost, and a pretty well-made one at that. It also just so happens to be made by Nintendo and features characters and some gameplay elements from the Fire Emblem series, which largely make the game more enjoyable than it might otherwise be.
Campbell Bird · Feb 09, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Fire Emblem Heroes is simplified, but certainly a good start when it comes to bringing the series beloved combat to phones and tablets. The flimsy story doesn’t bring any new ideas to the table and the blind-item system can get frustrating when it refuses to give you a competent hero, but the fantastically fun battles and ability to reunite with old Fire Emblem friends from anywhere makes it worth the free download.
Meghan Sullivan · Feb 08, 2017 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Fire Emblem Heroes is essentially the same game as Boss Monster, Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle whatever its generic name extension is, with just with a new veneer. Every time I played it though it did make me want to jump back into Fates. Which could be part of the allure for Nintendo. Not to make a lot of money off the app but to drive sales on the franchise’s other entries.
Robert Lashley · Feb 08, 2017 Reviewed onRead full review - About 10 hours in, I hit a wall where I just wasn’t having fun battling or drawing characters anymore. Still, that’s 10 hours of entertainment as well as a solid foundation here for something more grand in the coming months if Intelligent Systems takes the initiative and adds more features (like permadeath in the campaign). For now, Fire Emblem Heroes is a flawed but enjoyable way to pass the time for fans as well as a solid starting point for anyone who’s been curious about the series but hasn’t dived in yet.
Javy Gwaltney · Feb 07, 2017 Reviewed on iOS, And - I highly recommend checking out Fire Emblem Heroes if you’re a fan of Fire Emblem or turn-based strategy RPGs in general.
