Critic Reviews
- This reboot takes itself too seriously -- every texture is spit-shined and gleaming, every animation wrought with care -- without the self-awareness to sacrifice technical sophistication for ease of use. FIFA Street is enjoyable only under the best circumstances, before the engine and the sheer density of barely distinguishable, locked-out moves take over.
Joseph Leray · Apr 13, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - More than just something to tide fans over as they wait for FIFA 13, FIFA Street has an identity all of its own. It deserves a place in any football fan’s collection.
Lee Bradley · Mar 22, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - FIFA Street offers months of entertainment and is just downright fun to play whichever mode you choose. It is a breath of fresh air to see Street showing the respectful side that competitive "street" sports have. Everything isn’t about being in your face, “Yo momma!”, we are the best, everyone sucks. It’s about two teams competing against each other—may the better team on this day win and, when it’s all over, let’s all grab a pint. FIFA Street shows class and represents the world of street futbol well.
Devin Charles · Mar 21, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Awkward animations aside, the new Street looks great; the facial models are borrowed from FIFA 12, which means a big aesthetic departure from FIFA Street 3’s funhouse caricatures. When the best players in the world are spinning, hopping, and bicycle-kicking, the movements are fluid. We have to admit we don’t love the audio, though, as the combination of annoying soundtrack and blow-by-blow catcalls from the crowd leave much to be desired.
Rich Grisham · Mar 19, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - FIFA Street delivers a successful complement to the main FIFA series, and that is its greatest achievement. Focused and ultimately unique in flavour, the game’s trick-driven gameplay provides a welcome twist on the standard soccer simulation format. While its urban tone can be a little grating, the consideration put into the game’s attacking mechanics make it a surprisingly deep and replayable package.
Sammy Barker · Mar 19, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - FIFA Street's brand of super-fast-paced football certainly isn't for everyone, particularly those who enjoy a slower, more built-up match. Nor is the steep learning curve to be overlooked. But to dismiss it completely would be a mistake. This is as authentic a street football experience as you'll find, with a passion and flair that make it an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable game to play.
Mark Walton · Mar 16, 2012 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - FIFA Street finally realises the potential of a franchise that was lacking identity. By eradicating any silliness from the past, EA has crafted a thoughtful, challenging and consistently entertaining title that celebrates the nuances of football. Messi's appearance as poster boy is not coincidental to the sudden increase in quality, as FIFA Street strikes an enticing balance between trickery and an all-round solid game.
Nick Akerman · Mar 16, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - FIFA Street isn’t like the main line FIFA games, it’s barely even football at times. That’s not to say it isn’t a good game though. Even though I wasn’t expecting something so tuned for trickery and light on actual football, I found myself slowly growing to enjoy it. The systems are well explained, the controls are perfect for the pace and style of gameplay and the presentation is as great as you’d expect.
Peter Chapman · Mar 16, 2012 Reviewed onRead full review - FIFA Street is more about fantasy fulfilment: it’s about nonchalantly pulling off audacious tricks, scoring outrageous goals, and humiliating your friends in the process. It exists as both a worthy companion to FIFA – providing a quick, fun multiplayer fix – but also as a primer for those who are put off by FIFA’s precipitous learning curve yet still want to kick around a digital ball with friends.
Daniel Krupa · Mar 15, 2012 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Regardless of the points where FIFA Street shines, it suffers from too many buggy player animations. After seeing EA Sports do magnificent things with FIFA 12 -- cleaning up a majority of these same issues in its engine so that players weren't always falling over for no apparent reason or stopping dead in their tracks -- FIFA Street comes off as a disappointment.
