  • Playing against random people online is not always my cup of tea for all games, but on FIFA, it always has been. Other than playing against friends, I could sit there and match up against random people online all day long. It helps that I am not all that bad at the game and I don’t get as easily frustrated as you see some people do. If it wasn’t for the online mode of FIFA 20 for Switch, I would never touch the game again after this review.

  • I could have considered forgiving the Switch version of FIFA 20 if the only issue it had was the lack of the Volta mode, but that ended up being the smallest of my concerns. This game ended up being worse than other Switch ports of FIFA in every single conceivable way. It manages to look worse, sound worse, and above all, it features a much less fluid gameplay.

  • Overall, FIFA 20 is a gift wrapped with flair and flamboyance on the outside. When you unwrap it, rather than it brimming to the full, it leaves you a little underwhelmed. It’s still good, there’s lots to be found inside and it will no doubt keep you busy for hours on end, but there's just not the same magic inside as there is on the outside.

  • Delivering another strong outing, FIFA 20 proves once more that it's a football game truly to be reckoned with. There are issues, but few are serious enough to really mar the overall experience. Ultimately, FIFA 20 is fantastic, its new VOLTA Football mode being a particular joy, while FUT proves endlessly compelling yet again.

  • Flawed and iterative, but comforting, complete, and compelling, FIFA 20 is as frustrating and as essential as ever. The Journey and FIFA Street will continue to be missed, but Volta offers a genuinely different option for those who want to dip in and out across FIFA's smorgasboard of game types, while Ultimate Team continues its route to world domination. It's just a shame Career Mode continues to stagnate--even if EA has finally remembered it exists.

  • FIFA 20 marks the return of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. Features like Volta Football and the implementation of house rules in FUT provide exciting new ways to play. FIFA Ultimate Team still feels predatory, and the attempts to make the loot box system more transparent just showcases its faults. At the end of the day, the gameplay in FIFA is still top notch. Dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending all feel smooth as ever. While FIFA 20 is bogged down by the same issues that have plagued it for years, it does enough to set itself apart as a worthy installment.

  • FIFA 20 represents yet another conservative entry from EA that feels like it’s just biding time until the next generation of consoles comes along. Featuring next to no innovation on the pitch, an underwhelming Career Mode with puddle deep changes, and a consistently shady Ultimate Team, the only real reason to play FIFA 20 is Volta, and even that might fall afoul of excessive monetisation before long. Otherwise, you aren’t missing much.rprisingly shady surprise mechanics and little to no significant movement on the pitch, FIFA 20 is a stopgap entry that only has Volta to boast about.

  • EA’s legacy of support for the Nintendo Switch might not be very impressive but FIFA 20: Legacy Edition plays a good game of football, particularly for portable gamers. If you’re new to the franchise on Switch, it’s recommended. If you own last year’s edition, or another games console, it’s an easy pass.

  • In the meantime, however you like to play FIFA 20, there’s plenty here to ensure it stays in touch with genre leaders NHL 20 and MLB The Show. True evolution - and the chances of it ever entering five-star territory - will have to wait for next-gen. But the game everyone proclaims to hate still conjures ifs fair share of moments that you’ll secretly – or, in the case of last-minute winners, shoutily – love.

  • FIFA 20 doesn't reinvent the game of soccer, but it does an admirable job of reinventing how its played. New game modes, animations, and improved player and ball physics make this the best soccer game on the market.
