  • Whether it’s in play sessions of only half an hour or five hours, every experience nevertheless is rewarding and makes its open world one with exploring every acre of. Sure, this title’s heritage may lie with previous titles of old, but not all of it is familiar ground — seek hard enough, and there will be plenty of treasures for the adventurous.

  • A disappointing sequel in many ways but a game of such stark beauty and manic fun it is hard to write off entirely.

  • There’s a lot about Far Cry 4 to like: it’s beautiful and huge, and little additions like elephants to ride and helicopters to fly can make it great. But it’s less than a sum of its parts, and often is bloated and confused. For as big a world as Kyrat is, it lacks life and cohesion; it’s fun as long as you don’t think too much about the wheel beneath your feet.

  • The story is gripping, as are the characters that populate the struggle. If you’re not a fan of violence, then you’ll probably have to turn this game away, because saying it’s violent is an understatement. The easily-squeamish should probably avoid it since there is a lot of brutality to both man and beast in Far Cry 4. Still, you could do far worse than to plan an extended stay in Kyrat.

  • This game is HUGE. At the end of the day, you are absolutely getting every dollar of value from Far Cry 4, and I’m nowhere close to being bored of it after roughly thirty hours. If you enjoyed Far Cry 3, do yourself a favour and pick up FC4. You will not be disappointed, I assure you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to go get the trophy where you kill thirty enemies while riding an elephant. Yes, you can ride elephants. Need I say more?

Far Cry 4 is a great game that just feels like a lot more of the same. Granted as I said earlier, it has been just long enough since the last one to drag me right back into the mix. I hope they take note though and really go outside the box for the next game. Again feel free to use my idea and make it an island full of dinosaurs, then I will completely forgive the rest of the mechanics feeling like more of the same.

  • Far Cry 4 certainly features a lot to love, but Ubi's continued buffet-style approach to content has the game wearing out its welcome far earlier than it should. Still, if you're willing to adopt a pick-and-choose approach to its unbelievable amount of stuff to do, you should have a good time—just don't expect to digest everything it has to offer.

  • Mechanically, Far Cry 4 is an excellent shooter. It adds further polish to the open-world and action of its predecessor with even more involved and dynamic gameplay, and is loaded with rewarding side content on top of featuring a huge game world you'll spend hours exploring. The narrative isn't quite as solid, and falls through in several places with some aggravating characters and a lack of context to drive your actions.

  • It's Far Cry 3 in new clothing. That isn’t inherently such a terrible thing, of course, and there are enough tweaks to the overall package - however subtle they be - that there’s more than enough reason for hopping in for another adventure.

  • A lot has been written about Far Cry 4’s setting, its eccentric villain, and its rideable elephants, but they’re all secondary to the fact that, at its core, this is just a brilliant, well-designed shooter. The weapons feel great, there’s genuine opportunities for creativity, and it all takes place in a dynamic world where random tiger attacks are commonplace. There are some weak scripted missions to endure in the story, but the scope and variety of Kyrat more than makes up for it.
