  • There are a few missed opportunities. The lack of a champagne-spraying sequence when you win is a surprising omission, especially as I expected it not only to be there, but to be interactive, given the rest of the immersive features the game has. Maybe the reason for this is that you never see any of the other drivers in the paddock. Despite the full license for driver names, you only ever see photos of them, which makes this quite a one-man show.

  • The weather system is industry leading (certainly until Gran Turismo 5 arrives), and the depth applied to learning the tracks and utilising race tactics make it a replayable and addictive racing experience. Slight inconsistencies in presentation, and the mis-steps taken in the career mode can lead to some fleeting sensations of frustration; but it's the sheer sensation of excitement that ultimately lift the package beyond its recent contemporaries.

But such teething problems don't obscure the fact that F1 2010 is easily the best Grand Prix game since Geoff Crammond was on the beat. Its driving is second to none and is brought alive by a dynamic weather system, while its racing is as thrilling as the real thing. It's an exacting take by a team that clearly understands what makes F1 tick, and while a handful of issues hold it back from challenging Forza and Gran Turismo just yet, for now racing fans can rest assured that the world's fastest sport is in safe hands.

  • Even if you don't passionately follow Formula 1, F1 2010 is fantastic for those interested in investing the time in each race. Sadly, it's not as polished as previous Codemasters games, and it requires you to be willing to work around some serious bugs. In spite of all this, though, it still provides an intricate racing experience overall that's well worth participating in.

  • Formula One fans have found their game this year. F1 2010 has an entertaining career mode that has laid the foundation for ever-improving functionality in future iterations of the series. The presentation is amazing, especially during any sort of varying weather conditions, although there are also occasionally some weird graphical artifacts. The audio work is gripping, and contributes to a pulse-pounding experience. However, the game may be a tad too hardcore for the casual racer, especially when playing online multiplayer.

  • Codemasters had a significant task in front of them. They wanted to re-create the F1 experience in a way that almost no F1 game had done so before. In the end, they got it pretty close to it on their first try in some areas but fell flat on their faces in others. The game save corruption bug, which was also present in DIRT 2, is by far the biggest of all glitches and the most sinister, but there are several other, smaller ones as well that pop up as well. Hopefully, Codemasters patches these up quickly before they drag the game down too far.

  • Whether you're skidding around the Bus Stop at Spa in the rain or tearing out of the Parabolica preparing to hit the pit straight in Monza, F1 2010 does a good job of re-creating the excitement and action of driving a Formula One car. Clearly there is still room for improvement, but despite its occasional quirks, F1 2010 is a game that any fan of Formula One or simulation racing would do well to take for a spin.

  • F1 2010 almost spins out on the final corner thanks to some low framerates on denser tracks, and excruciatingly poor savegame and replay facilities, but its core of solid racing thrills sees it through. If you like your speed duels redolent, gorgeous and glazed with glamour/ rain, this is a risk-free purchase.

  • Codemasters has successfully created a game that both of us are happy with - a game that has options and sliders to accommodate all types of player. Is this the best F1 game this generation? Without a doubt, and it's the biggest advancement the license has seen for a very long time.

  • Combining ease of use both on and off the track is the key to why this game stands out. I can’t say that either aspect of the game is the most involved you are going to see, but simply having interviews and team objectives is great for a season-based racing game. Couple that with accessible racing and an eye towards realism, and Codemasters finally delivers an F1 game everyone can enjoy.
