  • A flashy, fast and cool experience Exoprimal has players blasting away at the dinosaur hordes in their thousands. At its core the game is a lot of fun, but it suffers from the usual live service game downsides. How long will it be supported? How will the balancing change? These and other questions can really temper the otherwise fun shooty dinosaur filled experience.

  • Exoprimal is a fun game but feels like it falls short due to how it can fail to open up until you invest a significant amount of time in the game. The story is worth checking out but don’t expect to be sucked into the gameplay loop of fighting dinosaurs for a long period of time.

  • To wrap things up, Exoprimal has been the game I didn’t know I needed for 2023! The matches typically last no longer than fifteen minutes, which allows me to hop in for a couple of matches if I need a break without a huge time commitment! Surprisingly, Exoprimal checked off a lot of boxes for me that make a good video game. Exoprimal is a good game on the cusp of being a great game. The biggest mistake being that Capcom made a 5v5 co-op multiplayer game that doesn’t allow you to play with your friends outside of the platform Exoprimal is running on.

  • Exoprimal is, definitely not, a sequel to Dino Crisis, in spite of the hopes and dreams of fans upon its reveal. And perhaps it's better that it isn't. Were Capcom to produce an online multiplayer follow-up to its beloved cult classic, we'd only be more disappointed. Standing alone, Exoprimal is slightly less disappointing, but still a bit of a (six-foot) turkey.

  • The escalation of difficulty and the wide variety of objectives introduced later on in the shooter gives it fresh life several hours in. Fighting through an ocean of dinosaurs is a ton of fun and the variety of enemies keeps you from falling into a repetitive combat loop. The story isn't anything special, but tying it to new multiplayer content makes progressing it a bit more compelling. Exoprimal is ultimately a great time and a unique multiplayer experience.

  • Exoprimal’s creative subversion of expectations impressed me in more ways than one, and its approach to telling a robust narrative within a multiplayer framework is an example I hope other titles study. I just hope it’s enough to keep the game from going extinct.

  • Exoprimal is a game that may not immediately hook into you depending on your expectations. I was initially disappointed in the PvPvE focus that is presented at first, but after just a couple of hours, was hooked into it. The game does manage to deliver a very flawed, but still fun shooter experience. This certainly won’t be for everyone, but despite its fair share of issues, it’s one of my favorite go-to multiplayer experiences right now.

  • As it stands, a non-existent campaign coupled with limited variety of content means Exoprimal‘s fate — like so many — will live or die by its post-launch, mid-to-long term support. As sufficient the foundation admittedly is.

Exoprimal is good, silly fun — but it’s not quite as entertaining as its wild premise would have you believe. Despite action-packed matches and a gripping storyline, Exoprimal struggles with its identity as a competitive game, and at times, clunky menus and pre-match cutscenes make dinosaur-killing time travel feel like a chore.

  • The roadmap ahead for Exoprimal is bright. New Exosuits, game modes, and more are in the works. With just a little more content, Exoprimal could become something huge. As it currently stands, it is an addictive and greatly enjoyable experience for someone who wants to experience the story. Having only one real game mode at launch has done more harm than good.

    About the game

Exoprimal is an online, team-based action game that pits humanity's cutting-edge exosuit technology against history's most ferocious beasts – dinosaurs. Exosuits are grouped into different roles, and players will pilot these exosuits to hold firm against overwhelming dinosaur swarms in online-only, team-based action game modes. Dino Survival, the main game mode, sees two teams of five players compete in a variety of PvE and PvP missions. Players will be transported to the scene of the latest dinosaur outbreak and follow Leviathan's guidance to complete objectives. The team that completes the mission first will emerge victorious. Whether players are engaging the other team directly, or fighting alongside them against a common enemy, the aim is to accomplish objectives as quickly as possible. Missions vary depending on player skill and other factors, meaning no two matches will unfold the same way.
