- The skillfully drawn graphics, combined with the engaging story and fun to solve puzzles, make Evan's Remains an experience everyone should play at least once.
Yağmur Sevinç · Apr 22, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - From the outside, Evan's Remains looks like a nice pixel art platformer focused on puzzles. Although that isn't technically an incorrect thing to say about it, its mechanical aspects are undercut at every turn to give way to a pretty fascinating story that is as unexpected as it is worth experiencing.
Campbell Bird · Dec 14, 2021 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Evan's Remains is fine — at least initially. The mix of visual novel-like cut scenes and platform puzzling is a good combo, and those who aren't too keen on the platforming part can take solace in the fact that they can skip those portions without penalty. However, the predictable nature of the tale lessens the story's impact, and the small number of puzzles doesn't provide much for action-oriented players to chew on.
Cody Medellin · Nov 24, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While the overly convoluted plot devolves into a straight visual novel near the end, until then you’ll be drawn in by the intuitive gameplay, vibrant side-scrolling world and the intriguing mystery that make Evan’s Remains such a satisfying puzzle platformer.
Bee Bonthuys · Oct 22, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It's a shame to take great graphics and an interesting premise and ultimately squander them, but that doesn't mean Evan's Remains is absolutely horrible. Given a bit of tweaking it could have been great. As it stands, it's an iniquity you can finish in a couple of hours if you're great at puzzles. Just don't expect to get too engrossed.
Brittany Vincent · Jun 24, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Evan’s Remains successfully achieves what it attempts: It delivers a compact story punctuated by neat puzzles. It switches between these central elements frequently, so no one idea overstays its welcome, but the concepts aren’t deep or compelling enough.
Joe Juba · Jun 18, 2020 Reviewed on PS4 - Evan’s Remains is a “mystery-thriller” that, while pretty big on mystery, is shorter on thrills. If the story (and the way it’s set-up) connects with you, you’ll have much more enjoyment than I did. However, I don’t think this is a tale with a broad audience in mind. Joined by puzzles that look and play quite similarly, the impact lessens. But the great audio/visual package elevates this one to an okay experience for me.
Trevor Gould · Jun 15, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Evan’s Remains is a really good game with beautiful graphics and a great story. It is also enjoyable for any type of player, as long as they don’t mind simple puzzles. Depending on the price upon release, again due to the length, it would be a more than a solid recommendation.
Noparg · Jun 12, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - While it comes in a small package the fun core gameplay and unexpected storytelling is worth anyone trying out, especially if you're into puzzle platformers. While Evan's Remains never gets truly difficult it still leaves the player wanting more past the credits.
Andrew Stretch · Jun 10, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - This is all topped off by some beautiful visuals. Pixel art is used to full effect with gorgeous, colourful scenery that is just begging you to stop and admire your surroundings. Combine that with an entertaining narrative and fun puzzling and you've got a title which pleases in all the right places.
