- Appropriately enough, Elegy for a Dead World's potential impact lies as much within you as it does within the game. I imagine many people might download, play, and scoff, wholly alienated by a creation tool that expects so much and provides so little. And there are times when I open the game only to stare at it for a few moments, become blinded by my own lack of artistic vision, and then shut it down in favor of entertainment that expects less of me.
Kevin VanOrd · Dec 17, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ultimately, that’s the point: Elegy isn’t about getting you to play games, but rather about getting you to be creative and explore your ability to express yourself. One has to assume the Dejobaan’s long-view goal is that eventually you stop playing, but keep writing. That’s a noble goal, and Elegy provides some fun, beautiful and interesting prodding in that direction. For the inspiration alone, it’s worth spending a little time on Dejobaan’s dead worlds.
Phil Hornshaw · Dec 16, 2014 Reviewed on PC - Although Elegy for a Dead World is commendable as a unique and thoughtful writing and teaching tool, much of its implementation seems either limited or unfinished. It exists mostly as a launching point, and I question how many will spend long hours with it composing new works. Many existing games are inspiring in and of themselves, even if the characters are removed, because the environments are well-thought out and painstakingly realized.
Gil Almogi · Dec 13, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The beauty of it is that it will speak to almost anyone, because whether it’s part of your education or one of your passions, writing and literature is an integral part of anyone’s life, and so Elegy serves as a welcoming platform for anyone who wants to practice writing and polish their craft. ...Elegy for a Dead World may be a jarring departure from traditions, but unlike the more pretentious attempts at alternative gaming experiences we’ve seen in recent times, this is one idea that should be encouraged.
Jahanzeb Khan · Dec 12, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Elegy For A Dead World's power comes from its focus, but the science fiction aesthetic is also curiously limiting. ...But perhaps this ambition would have moved Elegy for a Dead World too far into the territory of writing software, rather than a somewhat esoteric canvas for a certain type of writing. As it is, the game's simple yet effective function at least allows for follow-up games that take would-be writers to different kinds of places in their imagination.
Elegy For A Dead World är inte roligt att spela. Elegy For A Dead World är häftigt att uppleva. Och tyvärr så kommer det inte längre än så.

About the game
Trailers & Screenshots:
In Elegy, you’ll travel to worlds inspired by the works of British Romantic era poets, and write stories about those who lived there. Each of the game’s 27 writing challenges inspire you to create narratives about the worlds from different perspectives. In one challenge, you play an archaeologist uncovering clues and writing about a city’s final days; in another, you’re a thief, composing a song about searching the wreckage for valuables; and in another, you pen a lament in rhyming couplets.
