- It may be easy to play, but the monsters, hero powers, spells, and loot all interact in ways that give you interesting choices to make. Anyone can tap their way through a few levels, but you’ll need strategy and luck to keep going after that. Dungelot is a traditional rogue-like game with a casual attitude.
Chris Aylott · Feb 15, 2013 Reviewed on iOS - Overall, the roguelike die-and-start-over element added just enough tension to bring excitement to this very casual dungeon crawl. Dungelot successfully blends the ease of entry in casual games with dungeon adventure, adorable art, and nail-biting exploration choices.
Meg Stivison · Feb 15, 2013 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Dungelot was the first roguelike I've played that didn’t leave me sweating each choice I made. Dropping the pressure will bother some hardcore genre fans, but this is a casual interpretation that’s definitely more fun the deeper you descend. Also, come on… playable dwarf brewers? That’s a class type we’re officially demanding gets more love.
Cody Musser · Jan 25, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - This is a game that is both punishing and rewarding in equal measure, though at times it feels like the balance is still being tweaked and understood. Monsters, treasure chests, and doors are on tap. Go forth, die, and resurrect to tap again.
Denis Farr · Jan 18, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - It's not the most complex roguelike, or the cleverest. It is, however, just right for a casual dungeon delve on a mobile device. There's just enough meat to keep it compelling, and not so much complexity that you'll ever have trouble recalling your strategy when you come back from a break. It's, well, casual. A casual roguelike—how about that?
Nissa Campbell · Jan 14, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Since the game never changes outside of the randomly generated grid, each new game feels less exciting than the last, and eventually we found ourselves all Dungelotted-out. That’s not to say it isn’t worth experiencing – rather, it does have its limits… eventually.Dungelot takes a short while to really kick, but once it does, you’d better make sure you have a free evening – that sucker’s being lost to hours of casual dungeoning and many, many deaths.
Mike Rose · Jan 08, 2013 Reviewed onRead full review - There is a certain enjoyment that accompanies uncovering each level, and dealing with the rudimentary inventory management that kicks into after a few levels. Those looking for for a more passive RPG experience or are interested in the allure of this genre should give this game a play. You might find the genre suited to your tastes and wish to explore further.
Dave Flodine · Feb 11, 2013 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Even so, you'll experience everything Dungelot has to offer within the space of a few days, and once that happens your interest is likely to wane dramatically. While it lasts, though, this is an entertaining and attractive roguelike that should serve as the ideal taster course to the genre.Dungelot is best described as a causal roguelike, and offers the perfect introduction to the genre for newbies. Just don't expect it to keep you busy for long.
Damien McFerran · Jan 14, 2013 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - The thing I particularly admire about Dungelot is the interface - uncovering tiles as a means of playing a roguelike isn't new, but tapping tiles is a good way to play one on a touchscreen. It also makes everything about your progress so clear, and parsing its levels is an easy pleasure; the only challenge comes, as it should, from the dungeon itself. I have no idea how deep Dungelot goes, but every so often I pop back to try to find out.
