- Dropsy is a game that tries to show the human species that you don’t have to be a piece of garbage. Showing the smallest bit of kindness can go a long way in this world. Even if you’re a smelly, toothless, creepy clown, it’s the little things that matter.
Kaelyn Daugherty · Nov 30, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, in spite of needing to retrain my brain on how to interact with the world (it’s easier to travel without also carrying around a mouse and a dongle), Dropsy was a pleasant, interesting, if somewhat short adventure. It had heart, it had some truly gross moments, it had a horrifying cold open, and it was charming, however you can interpret that. For point-and-click enthusiasts, this is a title that should definitely be added to your library, owing to the fact that you can bang it out in an afternoon.
Oliver Shellding · Oct 08, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Upon first glance, Dropsy appears as a simple and offbeat textless point-and-click adventure that seems to pride itself on its eccentric world and premise. But once you give that first hug and imbue its grieving world with a small act of generosity, there's no denying the monumental effect of its charm. Even with issues rooted in its own ambiguity, Dropsy manages to be a captivating game with its genuine narrative, non-linear world, and stimulating puzzles.
Matt Espineli · Sep 25, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I judged Dropsy thinking it was going to be a kid’s game with little no challenge, randomly hugging people, and grow tiring. Instead I got a really interesting yet odd and colorful world to explore, a huge smile on my face, and a game that ultimately made me happy to see Dropsy love so many. I won’t soon forget you Dropsy. Hugs for everyone!
Justin Celani · Sep 17, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Regardless of these slight setbacks, I enjoyed Dropsy through and through. Though the premise of an adventure game about a lovable clown is not enough to win me over on the surface, it’s the complex tale of a cynical and unforgiving world the player is expected to change through loving and non-violent interaction that ultimately seals the deal. Adding in the wonderful presentation and dynamic soundtrack, this becomes an adventure game that should not be missed. It is a must.
Gil Almogi · Sep 16, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - If you miss the old days, before games of this ilk got streamlined and simplified, give this a whirl before you read too much about it. It's well worth the small outlay.
Tom Orry · Sep 15, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In the interest of being as earnest as this game, I felt a hope while playing Dropsy that I don't usually associate with gaming. This a point-and-click where your main interaction with the world is a hug button. ...This levity, this world, and these people are going to be with me forever. If you've ever complained about there being too much violence in gaming, or that games are all the same, and you don't play this... I hope somebody hugs you.
Zack Furniss · Sep 15, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Dropsy is sometimes dysfunctional, but loving, happy and fun. Dark undertones like Dropsy’s nightmares and the fact he’s an arson suspect will get you moving, but it’s positivity that will carry you to the end. You’re not puzzling for personal gain, but to make the world better for everyone, and Dropsy’s enthusiasm for light, carefree problem-solving is infectious.
Angus Morrison · Sep 14, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In the end, the lack of voice acting makes more sense that I would have thought possible. The twist is one, that with diligent attention to the environment, doesn’t come out of nowhere; and adds to the pay off that the end of this strange game delivers. There had been a milestone for voice acting in the kickstarter, and I find it hard to imagine an iteration of game where it was present. I find myself happy for its absence.
Cameron Farney · Sep 13, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The choice of using images over text yields issues from time to time which are wholly unique to this game. Longtime adventure fans should have little to no trouble decoding pictorial dialogue and should already be accustomed to carefully scanning each and every scene for objects, it’s just a shame that these caveats still persist in even in a modern point and click title with as much promise as Dropsy.
