- Symbolizing the twilight cruise of DREDGE, The Iron Rig feels like a great mix of old and new. While an artificial, towering spire disrupting this world's ecosystem seems less enticing than a new biome, Black Salt Games utilizes it in a way to subtly reshape how players engage with the endgame. The slight mechanical refinements bolster one's yearning to fish, the newly-unearthed species are visually distinct, and the new storylines retain the same Lovecraftian horror. Perhaps these hooks aren't quite as eye-catching as The Pale Reach's accomplishments, but there's a lesson to learn when certain gimmicks don't quite stick the landing: sometimes getting a consistent & more bountiful haul with less thrills can be a greater reward.
Lee Mehr · Sep 14, 2024 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - DREDGE: The Iron Rig is a nice excuse to get back onto that eerie ocean, but if you've already completed the game it's a bit lacking in danger.
Erwan Lafleuriel · Aug 16, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I fell in love with Dredge all over again while playing The Iron Rig. It completes the game in a way I never thought I needed and makes it feel brand new. Every point that the base game made about humanity’s impact on the world and the unknown implications from…well, the unknown, is heightened by the DLC. It’s the perfect reason to replay, a fantastic excuse to stay in bed all weekend and play a cozy horror game, and a new way to make yourself wonder about what’s lurking out of sight the next time you look out at the vastness of the ocean.
Jamie Moorcroft-Sharp · Aug 14, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Overall, if you’re looking for more Dredge, or a reason to delve back into the game for the first time since The Pale Reach, The Iron Rig more than likely has at least a weekend worth of fun to offer you. Even if it feels in places like it could have been a bit more than just another fish added to the catch of a good and spooky net.
Mark Warren · Aug 14, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Dredge is a good game, in fact it's a really good game. Furthermore, it's a game that deserves your time if you haven't played it before, and this more complete edition combining the Iron Rig expansion and The Pale Reach only makes this package more robust. But as a standalone expansion, there's not enough ingenuity to require reinstalling for this reason alone.
