- Bottom line, the game might be a bit easy for die-hard action RPGers but that makes it an exceptional choice for younger gamers. Dragon Quest enthusiasts will find a spin-off here that is a nice nod to the Dragon Quest series as the references to other Dragon Quest games are abundant! There are also many features that should keep you busy for a while. Highly recommended, especially to any Dragon Quest fan!
Scott Jeslis · Aug 03, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As an entry-level experience in the Dragon Quest universe, Treasures does a lot of things right. It nails the treasure-hunting mechanic and provides plenty of nostalgia through it’s audio, visuals, and monster-collecting action.
Ryan · Feb 23, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It’s this buildup of minor annoyances that makes it hard to recommend Dragon Quest Treasures. The experience is driven by charm and nostalgia, but if you don’t have an existing appreciation for the series, there isn’t much here that I could recommend over most other open-world role-playing games. It’s an experience that would greatly vary depending on the player; in other words, one player’s Dragon Quest trash is another player’s Dragon Quest Treasure.
Charles Harte · Jan 05, 2023 Reviewed on Switch - Dragon Quest Treasures offers a cute story, beautiful lore, and a magnificent world to discover, and while that’s all lovely, the experience is marred by its weak combat. In ways both good and bad, this game put me in the mood to play other Dragon Quest games. The treasure is tarnished, but it’s still at least something shiny and new to do, making Dragon Quest Treasures a decent appetizer as we continue to await Dragon Quest XII.
Abraham Kobylanski · Jan 04, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Ultimately, this lack of customizability paired with overly simplistic fights make for a very boring combat system. To exacerbate the problem, though the world is a lot of fun to explore, that very exploration will result in a vastly over-leveled party. Very little challenge is presented, up to and including the final boss, and at no point is grinding necessary. In fact, it's hard to avoid.
Sam Stewart · Dec 25, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It really depends on what segment of the game’s potential audience you belong to. If the aim was to create a JRPG for a younger audience, then it succeeds, but what is being offered here is going to feel too shallow and doesn’t offer enough challenge for most seasoned gamers.
SebastiaanRaats · Dec 25, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Dragon Quest Treasures is a bland adventure that sucks out everything that makes the franchise charming. There’s quite a lot to do in the game, but none of it is fun or feels good. Playing this game feels more like checking things off your to-do list: the act of crossing things off may offer a hint of satisfaction, but you don’t actually like doing the tasks on it.
David Flynn · Dec 22, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Dragon Quest Treasures isn’t a massive 100-hour epic like Dragon Quest XI. The game can still comfortably occupy a couple dozen hours at least. The islands are large and hold plenty of secrets, side quests, and monsters to discover. It’s definitely aimed at younger gamers to get them into JRPGs with its young protagonists, cute graphics, and monster-collecting gameplay, but it's fun for all ages.
Jason D'Aprile · Dec 20, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - At its best, Treasures is JRPG candy that acts either as a solid first JRPG for new players or a relaxing diversion for series fans. I just wish the game wouldn’t get in its own way so much.
Alex Culafi · Dec 16, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - A completely new spinoff from the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest Treasures explores the childhood of the siblings Mia and Erik from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. As Mia and Erik, players will embark on an RPG treasure-hunting adventure in another world before the events of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
