- The game did a great job of recreating the art style, the music, and the atmosphere, which creates a great amount of nostalgia, without elevating or enhancing the material at all. I enjoyed the experience of playing the game, and I think people who have never played this type of game would enjoy it as well. However, I would hope that people who play this game would also seek out all of the original games that inspired Dragon Lapis.
Edmond Aggabao · Nov 11, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With its speedy gameplay, colorful 8-bit graphics and chiptune music from composer Ryuji Sasai, Dragon Lapis perfectly fits into its niche. It’s not meant to be a title that’ll take over your summer, but is instead great to play on car trips or when your Switch is being used by another family member. You’re not likely to enjoy it if you’re not already a fan of JRPGs, but those within its target audience will find it a pleasant adventure to take…even it feels like one you’ve taken multiple times before.
Kirk Hiner · Jun 28, 2018 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Ultimately, this is a dance we've seen many times from Kemco and EXE-Create. You probably know what to expect from this pairing by now if you've been paying attention to the iOS JRPG scene at all, and perhaps don't really even need a review to know if you want to play the game or not. That being said, there aren't a lot of traditional single-player JRPGs being released on the App Store anymore, and while this one had the misfortune to drop on the same day as Final Fantasy 15 Pocket Edition, that doesn't necessarily mean that hungry mobile JRPG fans should ignore it. Dragon Lapis is a solid enough game that probably won't stick in your brain for very long but will at least keep you entertained for 20 hours or so.
Shaun Musgrave · Feb 16, 2018 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - So, a conclusion is required, and here we go. Dragon Lapis on Xbox One is easy, but fun. The story is pretty good, however the controls are annoying and the whole thing does seem a little bloated, forcing us to go to places that we really don’t need to. Aside from that though, all in all it’s a pretty good little playthrough. If you like a retro JRPG, but aren’t very good at them, this could well be the game for you!
Paul Renshaw · Oct 09, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - If you have a soft spot for retro RPGs and want to spend time in a lighthearted world with plenty of humour then you'll definitely enjoy what Dragon Lapis has to offer. It may be too simple at times but there's no denying just how well-crafted of a journey it is.
