- Doom Eternal reinvents its own wheel without abandoning its classic foundations. It has all the blood-pumping, gore-packed fun we expect from a Doom game, while adding a bunch of new RPG-like elements we didn't even know we needed. This is one not to be missed.
Diego Arguello · Jun 24, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - At the end of the day, I’m not here to judge the players or the market for this version of the game, I’m here to judge the actual game. From what I played, I can see a person picking this up and still having a fun time with it, but if I had the option to play it on another system or PC, I would choose to play it there. The resolution is an eyesore to say the least, but the gameplay is still smooth and works very well for the entire game. Take that as you will.
Drew Leachman · Feb 04, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There is a bit of lore you pick up along the way that gets added to your codex, but I only found myself looking through it occasionally. DOOM Eternal isn’t the first of the series, and the lore is interesting for scene setting, but it isn’t necessary for gameplay.
Jennifer Sheffield · Jan 13, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, I had a ton of fun with Doom Eternal, even if the story is borderline incomprehensible to seasoned Doom Slayers. I look forward to more installments in the franchise if this is the level of quality we continue to get. Those platforming sections are truly awful, though.
James Robinson · Jan 06, 2021 Reviewed on Switch - DOOM Eternal on the Nintendo Switch is yet another testimony for just what can be done on the Nintendo’s hybrid console. While Panic Button has managed to make a rather competent port, there is no escaping the graphical downgrades, but this doesn’t stop it from being an engaging experience from the moment you start it up.
Keegan Govender · Jan 06, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The game feels perfect from a gameplay perspective in this port, but visually it leaves a lot to be desired. If it was a cloud-based game, it may look amazing, but perhaps the gameplay would no longer be on point, which in many ways is more important.
Jonathan Ammerman · Dec 31, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Doom Eternal on the Switch is another great port from Panic Button. Graphically, it is a massive step down from the other console versions, but it makes smart concessions to ensure the gameplay shines even when played on weak hardware. It's impressive to see how solidly the title runs, even though there were quite a few obvious visual compromises.
Andreas Salmen · Dec 31, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Recommending Doom Eternal on Nintendo Switch ultimately boils down to two factors: the Switch is the only gaming system you own, and/or you plan on playing the game near-exclusively while on-the-go. Honestly, for a Nintendo Switch title, Doom Eternal is solid. It just feels like a game that benefits from being played on a more powerful platform.
Sam Watanuki · Dec 19, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - So despite the game’s undoubted quality, at this stage we’d recommend this only to those who just have a Switch available to play this on – or simply must play it on the go. If you fall into one of those camps this is still a more than serviceable way to play one of the very best titles of 2020.
Maria Alexander · Dec 19, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Not only is it a phenomenal game in its own right that ticks all the boxes of how a sequel should be made, but it’s also a technical marvel of a port conjured up by incredibly skilled magicians. The delay may have been far longer than promised, but it’s crystal clear that the extra time spent in its absence has certainly been put to good use.
