Critic Reviews
- While it has a great soundtrack, high-end graphics, and a diverse cast of some of Disney and Pixar’s best characters, Disney Speedstorm is unfortunately bogged down by its pay-to-win nature and grindy gameplay.
JAMES BELL · Sep 20, 2024 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Disney Speedstorm is a high-quality arcade kart racer with fantastic level design and graphics, and both single-player and cross-platform multiplayer game modes.
NimbleThor · Aug 02, 2024 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Disney Speedstorm stands as a remarkable addition to the world of racing games, offering an enchanting fusion of beloved Disney characters and the thrill of high-speed competition. The integration of unique character load-outs and skill sets adds a layer of strategic depth that invites players to consider their choices carefully.
Vince Zyle Cunanan · Jul 14, 2024 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Despite being drenched in familiar IP, Disney Speedstorm isn’t the kind of idle kart racing shovelware older gamers grew up with. There's a clear reverence for the characters it features and their fantastical worlds, evidenced by the passion in Speedstorm’s art direction and soundscape. When coupled with Gameloft's previous racing hits, the result is something that caters for casual gamers and genre die-hards alike. Just beware that whilethis virtual Disneyland-on-wheels is free, some of its main attractions come at a cost, whether spending time grinding away in queues to meet your favourite Disney mascots, or paying cash for that VIP fast-track.
Jim Hargreaves · May 10, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - You can probably see our dilemma. Disney Speedstorm is a masterful technical achievement and absolutely in the upper echelons of karting games. It just oozes class. But it’s dripfed through a live service that couldn’t possibly let you have everything at once, and a series of currencies and unlocks that seem designed to bemuse.
Dave Ozzy · Oct 16, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Chris is a freelance writer for multiple outlets, including Destructoid! He loves narrative games like Kingdom Hearts, Life is Strange, and Beyond Good & Evil. However, he does enjoy Fortnite and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from time to time.
Chris Penwell · Oct 07, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - As a fan of all things Disney (except the modern-day remakes, those can burn) Disney Speedstorm is an exciting idea, a chance to reacquaint myself with the worlds and characters that defined by childhood in kart form. While the game certainly delivers on the nostalgia and its racing proves enjoyable, sadly the free-to-play wrapping (it’s worth noting this game isn’t free currently) lets the package down resulting in a grindy structure that irks more than engages the player.
Ryan Janes · Jun 04, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Gameplay is king and in Disney Speedstorm I think players will find the most approachable kart racer out there. Controls have a variety of accessibility options that will help newcomers as well as grizzled kart veterans like myself. One of the best things in the game is the ease of use with the drifting mechanic. In a lot of games, it is very sensitive to when players go into and exit a drift move, but in Speedstorm the game is extremely forgiving and allows entering and boosting out of a drift move to happen fluidly and with ease.
Terrence Johnson · May 16, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - It’s hard to either condemn or get on the hype train for Disney Speedstorm. The game has some real creativity in areas that make me really want to like it, but it’s hard to overlook its flaws. There’s definitely some fun to be had, and with multiplayer this might be exactly the game you need to really despise the rest of your friend group for an evening. It’s really down to how you feel about its quirks.
Meriel Green · May 12, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Disney Speedstorm has the potential to be something great. The driving is smooth and fluid, the maps are vivid, and I love the characters and how they’re made to perform. But let’s be real here, gacha mechanics shouldn’t even have been considered for a racing game.
