- I would have loved to have seen these games take advantage of these new consoles, but this is literally a straight port. This means the resolution maxes out at 1080p. Even on Pro and X, this game looks and feels like the decade it came from.It is nice to have these three games to complete the entire DMC anthology on my shiny new console. I enjoyed revisiting all three games as they are definitely memorable parts of my past.
Ken McKown · Mar 27, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - When factoring in on whether or not I can recommend this game to newcomers to the series, I honestly do not think I can; Devil May Cry HD Collection‘s re-release poorly-made compilation fails to show what made the franchise as popular as it is, while old fans of the series will be disappointed to see this game is nothing more than a rehash, and obviously, if you did not like the series already, then there is a high probability that this compilation will not change your mind.
Taylor Lyles · Mar 26, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The Devil May Cry HD Collection on PS4 may essentially be a straight port of the PS3 version that released in 2012, but ultimately, that doesn’t detract from the overall experience. The original Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 still stand strong, and while the second game is easily the weakest of the three, there's still some enjoyment to be had at the very least. If you've already played through the collection on PS3 then the value of this port is undoubtedly diminished, but for everyone else - newcomers included - this is a fine way to get acquainted with Dante.
Marcello Apostolico · Mar 16, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - In the end, the Devil May Cry HD Collection is a lazy port of a set of lazy ports from six years ago, but it is technically the best way to play two fantastic games – and also Devil May Cry 2. There is absolutely no reason for any fan who already picked up the original HD Collection to give this one a go, but if you’re an old fan who doesn’t have access to the PlayStation 2 originals or a gamer that’s always been interested in the franchise, you can’t go wrong picking this collection up for $29.99 USD.
Colin Stevens · Mar 15, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - If Capcom wanted to use this re-release as a way to drum-up interest in a new Devil May Cry game then I feel they've gone about it the wrong way, as there's nothing here that's going to expand the series' player base. But, for those who simply want to play the games and rekindle memories of times gone by, the Devil May Cry HD Collection may just suffice.
Richard Seagrave · Mar 14, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Despite the dated visuals and camera issues, the gameplay remains as fun, as fast paced, and as addictive as it was over a decade ago. However, the lack of anything new in this collection may leave many of you wanting for more. The content alone is worth the asking price, but time and minimal effort certainly hasn’t done Dante any favors.
Mark Sherwood · Mar 13, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Devil May Cry: HD Collection is a fun walk down memory lane, and a great opportunity to see the growth a series takes throughout its entries. While each game is enjoyable in a different way, they still remain simple ports as opposed to receiving a proper remaster treatment. Fans of the series will enjoy being able to play these games again, however the more time I spent playing them, the more I simply wanted to play the 2013 entry.
Alexander Thomas · Mar 13, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - As hard and challenging as DMC could be, what impressed me most is how well the gameplay stands up after so many years. Unless you are a hardcore fan you might find the included extras a little light, but the entertainment value of the games themselves is value enough for your $40. In this slower season of game releases, this is a worthy pick up especially if, like me, this is your introduction to the Devil May Cry franchise.
Shad Forsyth · Apr 18, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - As first impressions go, the DMC HD Collection is absolutely terrible. The introduction cinematic for each game is muddy, ugly, and absolutely not HD. The textures and characters in the games themselves look detailed and sharp, but the pre-rendered scenes are a visual turn-off.
Daniel Bischoff · Apr 18, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Whether you are exploring the corners of DMC’s castle or surfing on a rocket in DMC3, there are a lot of great moments in this collection that will make veterans nostalgic and turn newcomers into fans of the series’ unique charm. Bayonetta may have outgunned Dante and Kratos may have outclassed him, but the combat, exploration, and scenarios of the DMC series still offer a thrill to this day.
