  • Devil May Cry 3 definitely shows its age in its latest port, but it holds up incredibly well regardless, thanks to some of the most challenging yet satisfying combat of any game in the last fifteen years. There’s a reason fans of both action games and the DMC series remember Dante’s Awakening as one of the best, and with the new features the Switch port brings to the Special Edition, one of the best action games ever has gotten even better.

  • Overall, I’d say that Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition is a must-play for newcomers looking for a fun action game and long time fans. It is easily the best version of this game to date, providing a solid conversion and a ton of new features that remain optional for those who might not want them. Unless they add these to previous releases, I can’t see myself playing any other version but this one.

  • While it has inevitably aged in places, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is still a fantastic upgrade of the old title with enough new additions to demand your attention. The Freestyle mode helps bring Devil May Cry 3 into the modern era, opening up combat and play style options and helping the game feel fresh and exciting once again.

  • It’s still well worth your time if you’re a fan of the series and the genre as a whole, but now what I really want is for Capcom to port Devil May Cry 4 to the Switch. It is more than capable of handling it if it can also handle Bayonetta. Oh, and DmC as well. That game ain’t half bad.

  • Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition for the Switch is the definitive version of arguably the best Devil May Cry game. Freestyle mode is a revelation that makes a great game even better, and the rest of the port is similarly top-notch. If you're a fan of the game or the franchise, then DMC3 for the Switch is absolutely worth the money. The party is really getting started now.

  • Devil May Cry 3 has aged remarkably well in almost every other area and the Switch port is the best version of this all-time classic. It’s a noteworthy achievement since the platform rarely gets comparable versions, let alone the standout one. Part of this lies within the new style and weapon switching, but these thoughtful additions only bolster the genre-defining fundamentals the game has had since 2005.

  • Character action games rely heavily on combat and style and Devil May Cry 3 manages to deliver just that in spades. While not being able to completely withstand the test of time, the addition of Free Style play to the Switch version gives the title a breath of fresh air, offering veterans of the series a fresh take on the classic while making it even more accessible to newcomers.

  • DMC3 is fast-paced, fun, and familiar. It offers up hours of hack and slash goodness which is true to the original release – for better or worse – whilst also including exclusive improvements to bring it into the modern day.

  • Devil May Cry 3 may be getting on a bit 15 years later but it nonetheless remains one of the most technically hardcore action games out there, and devout devil hunters will make great use of the additional features for the Switch port.

  • So, is DMC3 on the Switch worth its asking price of $20? If you haven’t played this game before on one of its myriad of releases before, then absolutely. I’d personally consider it to be one of the founding pillars of the modern action game genre and if nothing else it’s worth it for the experience. If you have played the game before, I’m pleased to announce that I’d still recommend it in most instances.
