- While Dead or Alive may not always have gotten the credit it deserved, we can see why this franchise is still very much alive over two decades after the first game was released. Many fighting games often focus on a multiplayer experience, while this ‘sixth’ iteration of the Dead or Alive series puts a heavy focus on single player fun with its story and the DOA Quest mode. Of course, if you still prefer to battle it out with other players, there are sufficient online options. Completionists will also love the many costumes you’re able to collect.
Ibuki · Mar 29, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall, DOA6 is a nice package. While the grind for the costumes is real, the quest modes is a great way to learn more about all the characters in the game, and while the online mode is sparse for now, the support for this game will come in due time. Aside from all of that, the most important thing is the fighting mechanics and DOA6 delivers in that aspect. This is a great fighting game for both beginners and advanced players. The ins and outs take some getting used to, but once you do, you feel the satisfaction of pulling off that amazing counter and finishing up with a devastating combo, and end the end, that’s all that matters. Fighting game fans will have a great time here.
Drew Leachman · Mar 28, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - To sum things up, Dead or Alive 6 does not represent a revolutionary leap in the franchise and is limited to offer more of the same but with a few new features. While some might like consistency, others might think it lacks originality, and both might be right. Playing Dead or Alive is fun; its combat system is sufficiently entertaining and accessible so that anyone can enter without much trouble but also so deep for loyal fans of the franchise and seasoned players. Although it practically bears no surprises, its polished gameplay with interesting new mechanics such as Break Gauge and Fatal Rush, alongside its wide variety of modalities and collectibles and functional online mode are enough to keep players entertained, and that’s what really counts.
RON · Mar 21, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - An improvement over its predecessors, Dead or Alive 6 is an accomplished fighting game with some neat new tricks and cool cinematic touches up its sleeve. Also, boobs.
Richard Walker · Mar 12, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - For what it is, Dead or Alive 6 offers an enjoyable experience for new players and veterans alike, but the full package currently fails to deliver in a lot of key areas.
Ashley Bates · Mar 11, 2019 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - In the end, Dead or Alive 6 ran a marathon and put a grind wall (some might call it a paywall) before the finish line.
Mario Brash · Mar 06, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Dead or Alive 6 is a solid new chapter in Team Ninja’s long-running fighting game series that has rarely been satisfied with just being “solid.” All of the groundwork that needed to be built here was built, but upon it was placed a mostly by-the-numbers experience that is too often just as frustrating as it is fun.
Mollie L Patterson · Mar 04, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Despite some missteps, DoA6 is a fun, engaging fighter with great-feeling, easy-to-pick-up combat, a strong sense of visual style, and a lot of personality. If you're looking for a new fighting game to learn the ins and outs of--or perhaps a nice entry into the 3D side of fighting games--DoA6 is a fighter of choice.
Heidi Kemps · Mar 04, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It is great to see this fighting franchise back in a bit more serious manner. Let’s hope that upcoming DLC content won’t ruin this with a couple of hundreds of swimsuits and fetish fuel costumes and that this game will continue its long road into non-gimmick fighting games.
Dan N. Scarborough · Mar 04, 2019 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Dead or Alive 6 maintains the same excellent fighting engine and graphical fluidity of past entries, but it's bogged down by a litany of problems. From the tedious grinding to unlock costumes to the bare-bones online play, it's a disappointing debut on current-gen consoles.
