  • Don't buy Dead or Alive 4 unless you're willing to become its student. It's a great looker, but it's a sourly aggravating game until you learn its ways. However, if you take the time to get some technique wrapped up in those fists, you'll start to enjoy the depth behind the startlingly pretty face.

  • I love the Dead of Alive series; it is one of my favorite fighting games to play, especially against friends. Like I said earlier, this is one of the games I was purchasing an Xbox 360 for, especially at launch. Even though this game didn’t make it on launch day, this is still one of the best fighting games I have played in a while. With over 45 achievements to collect and never-ending fighting matches online, you will not run out of things to do in this game for a long time.

  • It's simple: If you like fighting games, DOA4 is for you. Between its great selection of powerful fighters, its terrific action, and its addictive online mode, there's an awful lot to sink your teeth into, learn, and master in this latest and greatest installment in the series. That the whole thing looks so good certainly doesn't hurt, either. Any subsequent fighting games for the Xbox 360 now have a very tough contender to beat.

DOA4 is a move in the right direction for the series in the long run, even if, in the short run, the changes to the counter system, blocks, throws and the ground game are a little annoying at first. The fighting is now deeper and more sophisticated, and while it may not seem so at first, there is a solution to every attack.

  • If you're planning on playing the single-player much, it's an abomination, and you shouldn't touch it with a bargepole; and on Xbox Live, it's simply so flawed as to be unplayable in anything other than a basic 1v1 lobby, which arguably makes it into a pretty poor investment unless you have a friends list teeming with people who want to play.
