- The game itself is superlative but the port leaves some things to be desired. Hopefully the notch issues can be resolved in an update because as of now, you will have to play with the notch on the right so you don’t miss out parts of the interface. The lack of cloud saves remains annoying as well. Just like the first game, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Anniversary Edition is the one I will recommend to new players looking at which platform has the best version of Danganronpa 2 to play right now despite its issues as an iOS port. With both the original Danganronpa games now on iOS, I can’t wait to see how the final mainline game feels on iOS when it arrives later this year.
Mikhail Madnani · Sep 07, 2020 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is aptly named. This reviewer bid despair farewell, and had a great time in its wake. An excellent murder mystery visual novel brimming with hope and despair alike. Be ready to read.
Jake Richards · Apr 18, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There were ups like the characters and narrative twists, and there were downs like mechanical inconsistencies, but I had a smile on my face by the end of it all. Danganronpa 2 looks like a niche game, but it tells the kind of crazy story that more people need to experience. I mean, who can resist a talking bear and rabbit?
Anthony LaBella · Jan 08, 2015 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - In closing Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a worthy sequel to the original game and was very enjoyable. Some of the trial modes were a bit punishing but solving the mysteries was really satisfying so it balanced out any frustration. The characters and story were even better than the first and adding in the excellent sound design and art, the game is really difficult to put down. Anyone who was a fan of the original Danganronpa needs to check this one out while newcomers who are into text-based games with murder mystery-type plots should play the first and then this one.
Tanis Pallagi · Dec 01, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - So much of Dangranonpa 2 is an immediate, purposeful retread in both mechanics and storytelling. That loses its charm after a while, especially when the credits begin rolling, and it becomes clear not much has ultimately advanced after the events of the original game. ...This is a fun sequel spinning its wheels, capitalizing on what worked well before without real progress towards an endgame. Like most sequels, that works once, but it won't a third time.
Patrick Klepek · Oct 01, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - In the end, it all comes together in a most delightful way. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is an accomplished amalgam of storytelling, character interaction, and deduction – plus, a macabre attitude that isn’t afraid to show its true colors. It's just as bizarre and engaging as its predecessor -- and in an age where sequels often crash and burn, that's reason enough to say goodbye to despair.
Brittany Vincent · Sep 28, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair isn't a mere follow-up to a successful game, but an equal partner. It innovates within the series without stepping too far away from the game I first fell in love with: a deliciously dark drama lathered in mystery and peculiarity. It's Spike Chunsoft's version of lightning striking twice.
Megan Farokhmanesh · Sep 18, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Still, Goodbye Despair isn’t a game for everyone, especially those who crave action and non-stop thrills. The sheer amount of dialogue to wade through requires patience and concentration yet those committed enough to see it through will be justly rewarded.
Jim Hargreaves · Sep 17, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - While it doesn't have quite the impact as the series' debut, Danganronpa 2 continues the tradition of elaborate murder mysteries featuring appealing characters, and won't let you put it down until the bloody end. If you've been pondering the visual novel genre and don't know where to start, NIS America's answer to the courtroom antics of Phoenix Wright is an excellent place to start.
Bob Mackey · Sep 13, 2014 Reviewed on Vita - Does the sequel beat the original? That’s what everyone wants to know, and the honest answer is no. It was always going to be tough for Danganronpa 2 to live up the original, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t one of the best games I’ve played this year. Danganronpa 2 is smart, sassy, irreverent, and insanely clever—and should be enjoyed by all. This is no phoned-in sequel cashing in on prior success, this is one hell of a game and you should totally give it a chance to blow you away.
