- It’s a visual novel, yes. You’re going to spend a lot of time reading. However, just about everything you read will entertain you in some way as you watch these incredibly strong personalities play off each other. If you have any hangups about playing a visual novel, let them go. Pick up the Danganronpa games on whatever platform you prefer and enjoy some of the sharpest character writing I’ve seen in years.
Mike Cosimano · Apr 24, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Danganronpa 1-2 Reload is a fantastic collection, but it might not be for everyone. Those not particularly fond of visual novels may be turned off by the abundance of text you have to sift through. Likewise, it’s easy to imagine the occasionally plodding pacing of both titles getting under the skin of more impatient players. And if you already own the games on the PSP or Vita, you likely won’t find much of a reason to play through them all over again on the PS4. Still, if none of these caveats apply to you, you’ll find an awful lot of bloody good fun tucked into this package: especially if you already have a soft spot for Zero Escape or Ace Attorney games. Danganronpa 1-2 Reload unloads two full clips of murder mystery mayhem into the PS4 that no fan of the genre will want to miss.
Francis DiPersio · Apr 05, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - To the uninitiated to the wild world of Danganronpa, at the bargain price point only $39.99, there is really no excuse for any PS4 owner that isn’t severely adverse to the idea of reading to not pick this up. This collection features some of the most exciting and mind-bending adventures I’ve had the pleasure of reading, and it remains just as it was three years ago, highly recommended.
Jae Lee · Mar 29, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Though they start off a little slow, the pace at which they begin to move is exceptionally thrilling, and you’ll find yourself drawn in until the very end, especially if it’s your first time through. My hope is that you’ll give in to the despair that is Danganronpa.
Chandler Wood · Mar 10, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Danganronpa manages to eke out a place at the top of the pack. Players new to the series have no reason to pass up this collection. Both games are extremely well written and hard to put down. Returning players who already know the solutions to all of the conundrums but don’t mind re-experiencing the story will find a better looking version of the original two titles here. Since this is releasing at a lower price, that’s enough of a reason to go through again in preparation for Danganronpa V3.
Jason Bohn · Mar 08, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - So, all in all, the Danganronpa 1.2 Reload package may have a couple of problems here and there, but it isn’t enough to stop me from recommending this set. With fluid gameplay, well-presented design, and intriguing characterization, Danganronpa is a title that’s hard to refute.
Ethan Butterfield · Apr 24, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Danganronpa 1.2 Reload provides an excellent opportunity to get stuck into the series for anyone who missed it on the Vita, and, given that it’s a sum of two solid games, it’s a great title. However, while it is a nice excuse to play the games all over again for previous fans, there’s not any new content or changes to help make it worth the price tag unless you really, really want to play them on PS4, and they don’t actually benefit from that all that much.
Max Williams · Mar 21, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A very welcome compilation of two of the best story-based games of recent years, that manage to transcend their anime presentation and apparent absurdity. Great character development and interesting, unpredictable scenarios that transform the bizarre premise into a surprisingly nuanced exploration of moral relativism.
GameCentral · Mar 16, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - One part Persona, one part Ace Attorney, and one part Battle Royale, Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair are two of the very best murder mystery titles available for PS4 right now, together in one pack. While the games may move just a tad too slowly for some players, those willing to take a chance on a visual novel with a difference will find Danganronpa to be a fascinating, multi-faceted, frequently surprising story that's among the most compelling on the market, full of engaging characters, anarchic humour, and jaw-dropping twists.
John Cal McCormick · Mar 08, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - So many funny moments, great characters, fantastically surreal situations, a superb soundtrack - it's just all so good. So good, in fact, that the lack of any new content can even be overlooked. It's even better for those new to the franchise that can experience all the twists and surprises that are there in abundance. This is a release that even the home audience of Japan hasn't got yet (nor has it even been announced!), and one that Western fans should snatch up.
