  It has some good ideas and interesting features, but it doesn’t feel polished enough to impress. Basically, it feels like it needed more time in development. With more modes, tighter controls and more accessibility options, Dakar 18 could have been a really good game. But as it is, it’s both horrendous and decent depending on which vehicle type you choose to play with and on what difficulty.

  Dakar 18 is held back from greatness due to a number of issues. Chief among these problems tend to revolve around the game’s poor handling and its over-the-top damage system. However, if you can overlook the game’s awkward foundation and forgive the overbearing co-driver, there’s a beautiful vast world to soak up, with no shortage of diverse content to take for a spin. Just don’t expect to be wowed.

  Way Too Many Games

  I’m not going to try to sugarcoat this: Dakar 18 is a flawed game. Its visuals need a lot more polish and controlling the vehicles on anything but a steering wheel is a rough experience. On the other hand, this is THE real deal when it comes to a challenging rally raid experience. Being part survival and part racer, Dakar 18 does its best to accurately represent how tough it is to actually finish a race, let alone win it. If you’re looking for a rally raid experience on your PS4, Dakar 18 is a good choice. Just make sure to grab a steering wheel or else driving in the actual event might be an easier task.

  Dakar 18 feels like a game created with passion for the sport, complete with fully licensed names and vehicles, but perhaps without the time needed to do it justice. I can forgive the muddy visuals and even the blandness of your surroundings (you are in the desert, after all), but the poor handling and the co-driver issues need serious work. It may be damning to say it, but it feels like an early access game that needs a good few months of player feedback to complete. Even then, I’m not sure it could save a game that was already going to struggle due to its nicheness.

  There's some cross-country joy to be found in Dakar 18, but it could have been much more rewarding and successful considering the unique brand of rallying it represents. It is fun endlessly launching over sand dunes, hopping out of the car to be sporting by towing a competitor out of a jam, and finding one's way back on track after getting lost.

  Resulta loable llevar a cabo la idea de sumergirnos en el desierto con un roadbook para interpretarlo y lograr acabar etapas de auténtica resistencia, pero tanto por el enfoque, como los resultados obtenidos a nivel de satisfacción jugable, Dakar 18 es un título que de momento sólo podemos recomendar a los verdaderos amantes de la disciplina… y siempre que consideren todos sus pros y contras.

  Dakar 18 consigue capturar la esencia de la prueba de forma sublime, llegando a un nivel de realismo casi enfermizo, pero falla en todo lo demás. Los fans de la prueba sabrán perdonar estos defectos y se encontrarán con toda una aventura a lo largo de 14 etapas impresionantes, en las que sufrir (y disfrutar) como un auténtico piloto del Dakar. Una gran recreación del Dakar en un juego mediocre.

  Dakar 18 ha conseguido captar con enorme realismo la esencia de la competición al recrear con exactitud un enorme entorno natural y ofrecernos un sistema de navegación fiel y exigente. Además, contamos con las licencias oficiales de equipos y pilotos, los cinco tipos de vehículos y una reproducción muy fiel de las etapas del verdadero Dakar.

  Zwar gewinnen die Irrfahrten dank des Schadensmodells und anfallender Reparaturen bzw. Pannen an Reiz, doch trotz löblicher Mehrspieler-Optionen vom Online-Rennen bis hin zur LAN- und Splitscreen-Unterstützung dürften höchstens eingefleischte Hardcore-Fans dieser erschreckend öden Rally-Raid-Odyssee durch Südamerika etwas abgewinnen.

  Rennspiele und ich haben kein einfaches Verhältnis. Aber wenn mich ein Titel aus der Sparte wirklich begeistert, kommt er eigentlich so gut wie immer aus der Rallye-Ecke. Das war schon bei Colin McRae Rally und später Dirt Rally so, und auch Dakar 18 hat aufgrund seines originellen Settings und seiner Options- und Streckenvielfalt bei mir gute Karten.
