  • Crying Suns is an epic tactical sci-fi roguelike with RTS combat and an in-depth story set in a grungy universe where the OMNI machines humanity relied on have stopped working and society has collapsed. We play as a clone of a renowned admiral who has been brought to life to solve the mystery of what went wrong and give humanity a second chance.

  • Crying Suns is still as much of an engaging tactical space battler as it ever was. It has an interesting story that is beautifully presented, sounds great and a welcome addition to the Switch library.

  • Crying Suns is a tactical game. More than that, though, it is a game of exploration, of mystery, and of reclaiming what was lost. Even though some parts of it seem to clash, the overall experience is very good. For those coming from FTL, the sense of exploration, the wonder of meeting new people and finding new places, is very familiar. For those who simply find the idea of fighting to restore a crumbling empire, helping the people trying to survive the wreckage, bring a semblance of order to dangerous territories, you’re in for a treat. Either way, Crying Suns is an easy recommendation for those looking to experience tactical gameplay with a extra helping of dark scifi frosting and a glaze of mystery.

  • Crying Suns puts more than a simple twist on a tried-and-true formula. It combines multi-faceted systems with a unique narrative structure in ways that breathe new life and mystery into something that initially appears derivative. Despite a few UI quirks, Crying Suns is a refreshing sci-fi roguelite experience, and the mobile port features the modern conveniences (like save syncing) you'd want for on-the-go play.

  • Crying Suns is still an excellent tactical rogue-like, elevated by the fact that you have so much more control in battle encounters and are presented a range of meaningful choices in how to spec your ship. The art style is wonderful, and the world a genuine pleasure to explore, provided you don’t get held up in the same section for too long. It’s less mechanically ground-breaking than perhaps it could be, but fans of FTP and rogue-likes at large can certainly add another highlight to their list.

  • Crying Sun is stylish, fast-paced and simple to play but its content runs thin and it can also be often unfair because of its high reliance on random factor. It may be true that half of everything is luck but in the long run, it doesn’t always turn into meaningful gameplay. The game would also need broader grasp on content and allow more creativity. Still, it’s a perfect pick-up-and-play title for its speedy gameplay that keeps each session nicely bite-sized.

  • All told, Crying Suns is a slick reinterpretation of FTL’s core design. While it looks great and the story holds up throughout (despite some exposition bombs), it loses just a little on the mechanics that made FTL so addictive and repetitive. If you’re craving a neat sci-fi yarn and can appreciate the visual treats on deck, it’s still definitely worth checking out. The replayability is abound with tons of ships to unlock for future playthroughs and new officers for you to try out, giving plenty of reasons to come back to this one.

  • Together with the inventive combat and gauntlet of narrative choices to be made, Crying Suns is a good strategy game that's absolutely worth playing as long as you're okay with it not being much of a roguelike. Repetitive encounters and a general lack of challenge made my journey through this corpse of a galactic empire not nearly as hardfought as it should.

  • Crying Suns is a solid story-driven take on the sci-fi strategy roguelite, with great atmosphere, an interesting story, and cerebral tactical combat. The experience is mired only by several bland game features, some grating repetitiveness from a lack of variety in events and dialogue, and an odd lack of personality from the officers.

  • Crying Suns, a grim, sci-fi rogue-like adventure, leads us through Alt Shift’s version of a post-apocalyptic galaxy, complete with pirates, mutants, robot worshipping religious zealots, and other unsavory characters. The game features tactical combat, a strategic map with resource management mechanics, and a mystery for the player to unfold.
