  Bringing this game to consoles turned it into the most beginner-friendly and fastest-loading version of Crusader Kings yet. It falls only slightly short of the PC version’s greatness simply through the game being built from the ground up for desktop gameplay. As it stands, Crusader Kings 3: Console Edition is the platonic ideal for console ports when it comes to strategy games.

  There’s downloadable content, of course, but free patches have also arrived regularly, improving systems and eliminating bugs. But more work is needed both in the balance and the immersion department. Crusader Kings III is an excellent way to tell and enjoy stories and I can’t wait to experience how Paradox will add depth to its various mechanics.

  Crusader Kings 3 is a superb strategy game, a great RPG, and a master class in how to take the best parts of existing systems and make them deeper and better. I have thousands of hours in the previous game, and I expect to spend at least that many in this third installment. All of the engrossingly flawed characters and stories of love, war, triumph, and loss that have already dynamically emerged from my playthroughs feel like just the beginning of something legendary. In fact, if I had to pick only one game to play for the rest of my life, the decision wouldn’t be that difficult. A new king of historical strategy has been crowned. Long live the king.

  Crusader Kings III is easily one of my favourite strategy titles of the year, if not of all time. The level of control that the game gives players, as well as the unprecedented level of outcomes and interaction it provides (emergent gameplay), is too fun to ignore. Paradox have always been known for the depth of their strategy titles, and Crusader Kings III continues the trend whilst keeping the game enjoyable to play.

  Crusader Kings III is utterly engrossing, full to the brim with interesting stories and tough decisions for the player to make. It succeeds as both a strategy game and a captivating RPG. And this is all before the player even thinks about touching multiplayer or what will undoubtedly be an incredibly active modding community.

  Crusader Kings 3 is likely to forge its own dynasty as one of the best grand strategy games of all time, and I know Levi would have felt the same. Whenever I kidnap the pope, subjugate some sad sack, or marry my child off to a sixty year old nudist, I will remember him.

  Though you might be forced to reload the game several times to avoid a certain outcome, it’s the learning that matters as it lets you sink deeper into the captivating gameplay. On top of being excellently executed, Crusader Kings III’s blend of RPG and strategy isn’t often encountered, adding yet another reason to why it’s one the best strategy game ever made.
